If it is a law everyone should obey! There are already a lot of funny rules in everywhere in this entire world but yes I agree that everyone should have basic surviving English to have decent life in this country. No one should be coming here as illegal person first and then to just take advantage of the system in their future.

Yeah sure maybe people should become legal in order to live here, but I don't like the law at all... basically saying people can be pulled over/stopped for being not white... i don't know it just seems wrong to me.  There are plenty of people out there who may be of different races but lots of them are leagal.  America is a melting pot and we should be proud of that.  It seems like this law will drive actual legal migrants crazy, getting stopped constantly to check immigration forms.

A.No one said that real Americans are not capable of being criminals... And B. before criticizing a law why don't you try reading it first...
Actually that isn't what it says at all. I have a copy of the law. The gist of it is :
FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY
OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS
STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS
UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE,
WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE
PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).

I agree and have to say that it can't seem very fair to the legal immigrants that have went thru the process of becoming naturalized that for a whole lot of years others have came in to the country without doing the same.

Having to show papers seems to be part of the american existence ...If I get stopped by a cop the first thing they want to see is my identification.  Am I humiliated by that fact? No and it wouldn't matter if I was ...it is how it is. Of course if I had a good lawyer maybe he would decide I needed to become humiliated even tho I was simply doing what everyone else had to...what do you think?

I do have to say that you have to be familiar with the history of immigration to the US before you get a big picture here. Anyone that does genealogy probably has a fair idea of this.  To start with the US did not require immigration.  Then they decided people needed to naturalize and at that time it took 15 years and was real tough...my gr gr grandmother managed to do it tho in 1866 lol  but anyway the laws have changed over the years regarding immigration. The immigrants were mostly happy to comply with the laws of their new country because it still was better than what they came from.

This whole issue has made me wonder...has this changed? Do people just take immigration for granted now?

I think it is wonderful that people are trying to find a "better life" for themselves by coming to America.  However, they need to come here legally.  By doing so, it is the correct and proper way of living here.  You cannot aim for higher if you are willing to sneak around...they don't equal each other.

I am illegal.. have been for the last 22years.  I speak English, does that means I can stay lol... Please there is plenty of ignorant people who agree to this law only because it validates their racism.   Because I look white, I speak English without an accent I have been able to live as an american most of my life.  I work, I pay taxes, I send my kids to school, I volunteer at several organizations, I am involve in my community.  I also pay fines to immigration, an attorney, and several other fees just to stay here, but yet I am still illegal.  I know what you are going to say, that I am stealling your jobs, that I am braking the law by staying here, fortunatelly for me no one is perfect and well neither am I.  Good luck on having an Arizona free of Latinos.

First of all, I want you to know that I am opposed to giving a blanket amnesty to people who are in this country illegally. Congress should not provide or create incentives that have the effect of increasing illegal entries into the United States.

 

I have supported a number of bills aimed at controlling our borders and strengthening enforcement of our current immigration laws. Last Congress I cosponsored H.R. 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act, which contained provisions to strengthen our immigration laws and hold violators -- including those who smuggle human beings and employers who hire illegal aliens - fully accountable. This Congress I am a cosponsor of H.R. 1940, "Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007," which would change our immigration laws so that the children of illegal immigrants would not automatically be granted citizenship.

 

Our first focus must be on controlling our borders and strengthening enforcement of our current immigration laws. Our immigration system needs reform, but we'll need to do it right.

First of all, the Arizona law does not provide for just pulling people over because they look Hispanic. In order for the law to apply, the person must be doing something illegal to begin with before law enforcement officers can ask if they are here legally. Secondly, the law is actually a lesser version of the Federal Immigration law already enacted. That law is just not being enforced. So yes, if someone is breaking the law by committing a crime AND is here illegally, I think law enforcement has every right to ask them to prove citizenship.
As for "racial profiling"....it's Arizona! It's not like there are a ton of Japanese people coming over the border there. So yes, a lot of the people being asked to prove citizenship will be Hispanic. That's just common sense, not racial profiling.
PS: To the person putting down "Hillbillies". I was born and raised on a farm in East Tennessee. I guarantee I have just as much education and cultural experience as you. So yep, I'm a hillbilly and proud of it.
