Rash - can anyone help?
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:30:11 am »
I thought I had strep throat... but the culture came back negative.  I am on antibiotics and only have 2 days left.  My throat looks better but not totally.  I had a bad rash on my neck area and it went away but now it is back.  I also noticed a patch on my arm.  I'm leaving for vacation and I don't want to be sick.  What on earth could this rash be?  Any ideas?

Tigerlilly01,

My husband had a rash that itched like crazy...he finally went to doctor and was told it was eczema (spelling??).
Doctor prescribed a topical Triamcinolone 0.1% cream.  Also had him get some Lubriderm lotion.

Seems to be improving......
Good luck on finding your answer to your rash

AND have fun on Vacation!

take some antibiotics, could be an alergic reaction to something.

might be shingles too...I'd check in with a doc to get a proper diagnosis on this, if over the counter treatments are not working well.  hope it turns out to be a minimal annoyance...

Your best bet is to see the doctor that gave you the antibiotics -- they may be the cause of the rash as well as the cure for the throat.  The doc may be able to change the antibiotics to reduce the side effects.

Eczema is just another work for rash.  Rashs can be caused by alot of things -- allergies; side effects of medicine; nervous reaction to all of the above.

I used Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Diproprionate Cream (perscription) to treat a mild rash on my hands that pops up for no reason.  Works for me: better than any OTC product I tried.

Does the rash look like little red spots?  I took some amoxicillin years ago and right before I was to finish I developed these little red spots on my skin turned out the medicine made me allergic now I am allergic to penicillin whereas before taking it I was not allergic but now I am.  Go ask the doctor not people on a message board.  The doctor is the only one that can give you the correct answer.

I feel bad for you.  Did you use any different laundry soap?  Parfume?  makeup?  Try to think about anything new or different you ate or touched.  Keep us posted and let us know how you made out.  Feel better.

You can try hydrocortisone, I usually use it when I get some kind of skin irritation. One time I moved into a new place and I guess I had a bad reaction to something there because I had this really bad rash on both of my forearms. I couldn't figure out anyway to get rid of it. Usually I would just scrub it in the shower (bad idea though because that just led to me scratching it). But anywho I remembered that when I was younger and had eczema my doctor gave me hydrocortisone and luckily they sell it over the counter. So I put some on my arms the night before and when I woke up it was completely gone. You can usually find it in the aisle that has the bandaids, and neosporin. ^_^ I'm not a doctor though, but that's just my personal experience with it.
