I feel you pain, I was working as a Medical Office Assistant until I got laid off because the small rural town I'm in is really nothing more than a ghost town now. Anyway, after months and months of searching and coming up with nothing I ended up finding a job in a call center. It is NOWHERE near what I'm qualified for or what I want to do with my life, but it's something to get me by until something better comes along and/or I can broaden my horizon's. Just keep looking and maybe even think out of the box a little bit, you'll eventually find something.

I think that is a little harsh.  Acawap described a real problem for a lot of unemployed people.  The jobs they are qualified for are not there, then no one else wants to hire you because they know you won't be happy with their job long-term.  Also, if you have the choice between unemployment and a $7 an hour job, it does not make sense to tie yourself up so that you don't have time to interview because you are obligated to a job that pays less than unemployment.

It is easy for people who have a secure job to scoff at others, but I am here to tell you, you never know what kind of curves life can throw at you.  All you can do is prepare, but no one is exempt from life's ups and downs.  I hope all of you who are having a hard time get some good breaks soon!

It's a horrible world for jobs out there, but articles and reports I've read are predicting a turn-around in the job market soon.  Just keep plugging away, sending in those resumes, eventually something *will* come up.  While not unemployed at the moment I am job searching because I am about to graduate.  I feel kinda hopeless at times too because I went to college to try to get a better job than my current fast food position, but now I see people with degrees applying at Wendy's because they can't find better jobs.  Doesn't give me much hope when I don't have any more on the job experience in my new field besides an internship.

yeah im sorry dude. yes i am in the same boat. my man is the main bread winner here and he is also on unemployment due to his shop closing too. he was there for 11 yrs and he wanted to be there longer. i had been talking about how possibly he was gonna lose his job years before but it never happened so we always thought it was never going to happen until dc of last year when he got a notice stating the site was closing and his job was going to be eliminated in a month or so. he suck it out until his last day. he feels better not to be working but he wants to go back to work coz he is so bored and is not making nearly enough on unemployment and he was when he was employed. he got a severance package and it has lasted us til now and hopefully will last for another couple of months. i really dont know how long its gonna stretch coz our rent is high and we pay all the utilities except for garbage, water. i work but i only get a weekly salary and im working a second job part time at liberty tax but it will be over once tax season is over. so im making money on here and what other side jobs i can get.

J.O.B. = Just over Broke.

Try doing your own thing there are a lot of programs on the internet that is free. One needs to do multiple streams of income to come out on with a decent amount of money. I see a lot of stories here, these could become a good blog entry to make some money with. Think positive and things will work out for us.  :peace:

Nice to know I'm not alone in my little unemployment problem... but sad, too.  I don't see any signs the economy is getting better -- this could be a long, rough, ride.  Just need to survive it!

I've been out of work since Dec 09. It's tough out there. I apply for many, many jobs. I get an interview every now and then. I think it was the perfect fit for me and then what, the position was filled by a more qualified candidate.

I hope for all of us that something comes soon!

Keep applying, keep praying.

I need a pick me up.

I've been unemployed for over a year since my company folded at the worst possible time (thanksgiving time, 2008, beginning of recession).  I have been offered 2 jobs, only to have the position closed for economic reasons before I started.  I have applied for over 1000 positions -- just had an interview for a job that I was perfectly qualified for.  They didn't ask me any personal or professional questions, only hypothetical "what would you do if..." stuff, that I thought I answered decently, but just heard I didn't get it.  I don't know the exact #, but I know there were a LOT of applicants.

Anyway, if I didn't get that one, I am about ready to give up hope of ever finding a job again in this economy.  That's why I'm doing all of these make money online deals, trying to find a few ways to make a couple bucks.  Anyone else in that boat?  Is there any hope?? :(
I know what you are going through. I apply for so many job in nobody calls me. I had one interview they ask me so many question about what would you if? I didn't get the job. At times I feel like giving up. I been trying to look for some work at home jobs that works for real.

It's really hard out there.  On the news they said that people may just have to get part time jobs if they cannot find full time jobs.  They were predicting that jobs could become even less and harder to get in the near future.

I know it is discouraging but don't give up.  My husband has been laid off twice in the last 3 years.  He is now making 1/2 of the pay he used to and I am working part-time.  I think think things will turn back around w/in the next 2 years.  Best wishes on your job search.

I have heard that the jobs are only hiring people that already have jobs, they are just moving around from job to job now, and the unemployed are not getting hired no matter what their qualifications are.  :peace:

I was unemployed for a year and had almost given up hope on finding a job. I decided to go back to school and seek a career in the medical field. There is an abundance of medical jobs out there, so my discision to change careers made sense. I now am working in a great job using my new skills and I couldn't be happier. Maybe thats what you need to do, seek out a new career.
