TIPS for Every Day Life!
« on: January 23, 2010, 12:03:39 pm »
The purpose of this thread is to post tips and tricks that may help you out in everyday life-- how to make a good soup, extend the life of your car, job-hunting tactics that worked for you, meeting people, etc. Anything goes as long as it's helpful! Don't post a huge list in one post-- just post 2-3 tips max as most people don't want to read 50 paragraphs. Keep it simple! If someone posts something that is flawed, you may correct it. Don't be a too much of a jerk though.

Mine--
In winter months, let your clothes dry in your basement if you have one. This helps save energy (as opposed to drying them in a dryer which is usually the 2nd most energy-draining source in your home) and helps humidify your home.

By learning something you may not know? This is a post for people that may want to learn something new or try out. You obviously don't want to, so don't be a jerk. But if you do want to learn something, here's my newest one--

Learn to capitalize your letters and work on your punctuation. Grammar can make you look like a mature person or a 5 year old. It helps people take you more seriously whether you're writing an essay or posting on a forum.

Never risk anything that you aren't willing to lose. I learned that one the hard way.

Greater risk equals greater reward.  And greater loss.  Be careful out there.

1. always tell the people you love that you love them
2. Treat people like you would like to be treated

Oh also -- a common household item that can have many cleaning purposes (as well as cooking) -- Vinegar.  Mix vinegar, dishsoap and water and put it in a spray bottle -- this will take stains (including ink) out of your clothes, will remove coffee stains from your coffee maker and so much more!

To clean varnish off hands: Pour a little olive oil in your hands and add sugar. Then rub them together like you normally would with soap and water. rinse. It also softens your hands and is a good exfoliate.

I use white vinegar to clean the ring from around my drain in my tub abd to take out any rust stains   no scrubbing necessary! just don't let it set to long because it can take the finish off your tub  :P

Well if you're being honest, you've offended everyone that has posted. Nice work. Stop acting like a 6 year old.

New tip--
Many people rent/buy movies at full price all the time only watching them once or twice. Local libraries usually have a truckload of new and old movies you can borrow for a week. The price difference usually is 19.99 at a store or 5-6$ at a rental store vs. a 25-cent library card. Save some cash!
