Have you ever lost a pet?
« on: January 19, 2010, 12:20:59 am »
Just asking cause I may have lost my cat...well actually my brother's girlfriend may have.
I had to move into a different apartment that didn't allow cats and my brother said he would hold onto him for me. They only had him for less then two days and he's gone. His girlfriend let him out into the backyard and he never came back. Then it began to rain.
I get the feeling he may come back. But I'm still a little sad. He was an inside cat and my husband sort of spoiled him. Maybe he's just running around for fun. He has a collar and was microchipped by the animal shelter we got him from. Ugh I hate this. Damn that cat and his fence jumping abilities.  :crybaby2:   :cat:

:thumbsup:Don't worry, your cat is just checking things out. he will come back when he want's something to eat. I've had a LOT of cats, and you have to remember.. dogs have masters, cats have staff..

i have always had cats, but one time we moved across town and of course brought our cat, and our cat got outside and did not come back, a family friend who lived next to where we use to live , said she saw  a cat that looked like ours , and of course it was our cat... we took him back home and he did the same thing went back to the old house, so then we just left him for our friend to take care of ..  but that cat walked about 4 or 5 miles and trough pretty busy roads . cats are pretty good at figuring out how to get back home...just thought i would share..

If he has a microchip, can't they find him. Our took off for a little bit the first time he snuck out, he is not an outside cat either. I went out there and had some food and he came back. He probably was not use to his new surroundings. He should find his way back though, cats are pretty smart. They have stories, where they have traveled through states to get home. He may be headed back to you, they have very good instincts, they say that cats our of all the domesticated animals keep their wild instincts the most.

It's raining really hard for the second day in a row. So I'm hoping once this clears up he'll be able to find his way back, or maybe even check at the animal shelter I volunteer at.

It is certainly a dreadful experience to lose a pet. They become a member of the family and the loss can be terrible. I think cats are notorious for going away for a few days especially a mal :'(e.

The years pass and I still try not to think too much about the ones I have lost because it is just so painful.  I have three dogs, a cat and three turtles.  Cats are very resourceful but can get very traumatized when their living arrangements change.  I know you feel just horrible, but my cat often disappears for 24 hours or so and then returns.  I have no idea where he goes, but he is always hungry and sleeps for a day, so I guess he parties somewhere.  Not real safe, but I can't bear to lock him inside or  put him on a leash so off he goes.  I hope he comes back soon so you can feel better. I think with a little food, calling out and effort they could probably locate him.  I wonder if she really wanted the responsibility.
