Christmas Traditions
« on: December 18, 2009, 07:09:58 am »
I know you guys are wonderful at providing experience and insight. So, lets talk about Christmas Traditions and maybe next year I can make my Christmas even better by enjoying some new traditions.

What are your family's Christmas Traditions??

Some of ours are:
Cinnamon Rolls for breakfast, and of course christmas dinner.
Open a gift one at a time so that we can see, appreciate and enjoy each other and the gifts.
We have one scavenger-hunt a year for one family member for a big gift. The person and hunt is different each year.

Can't wait to hear about how you spend your holiday.

Traditionally, my family has always..

1. Invited everyone over. It's not Christmas unless the whole family and even friends are there.
2. My family has always been against fake trees. We only buy the real thing. Christmas only comes once a year! Might as well go all out, right?
3. Open one gift on New Year's Eve just to tease and then open the rest on Christmas Day.
4. Open one gift at a time and not all at the same time. One person at a time, actually.
5. The Christmas tree must have Ice cicles. :P
6. And of course..you can't have Christmas without driving around to view all the lights and decorations. :)

Mine are pretty basic.

My families Christmas traditions:  We would do a "Secret Santa" thing, where we each drew a name and would shop for something for there birthday.  At Christmas night, we would exchange gifts 1 person at a time.

We used to have Christmas on New Years, when my dad lived with us, so we can Celebrate the meaning of Christmas.  Back then, we had presents at the tree, and my dad and one of us would help pass out the presents.

good times :)

The Christmas Pickle: In Old World Germany, the last decoration placed on the Christmas tree was always a pickle... carefully hidden deep in the boughs.  Legend has it that the observant child who found it on Christmas Day was blessed with a year of good fortune... and a special gift!
