What do we need to change in this world.
« on: November 25, 2009, 06:17:44 pm »
The robbery, killings, jealousy, and maybe secret sociaty. Lying to people, and fighting. What about truth, beauty, love, respect, social, kind and special.

Better communication would help. Most people in this world are never going to be on the same page, because we were all born with our own original personalities and thoughts. It's inevitable that people are going to argue and conflict with each other, but how you resolve these conflicts is the difference between, someone walking aways or someone getting murdered. Mis-understanding is one of the biggest killers in this world IMO.

The general society also in my opinion do not take enough responsibilty in how certain people turn out to be. Everyone looks at the one guy who robbed the store and make their comments, but you have to wonder, what happened to him, to make him want to commit such an act. There are cases where it's a mental defect, but there are many times where decisions are based on how society treated them growing up.

For a teen these days if you are not into certain things, don't have certain items, or don't fit in with a particular look, you may be outcasted and pretty much ignored. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that before you judge someone, think about how you treat other people, and consider that you may have a had a part in what they became.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents on it.

Edit: I just noticed this thread is probably in the wrong forum, should probably be moved  ;).

Every person just needs to treat others as they would have them treated.  Forget GOD.  Do it for yourself and society as a whole.  And if someone is doing something that is not hurting you, then leave them the hell alone.  Talking to all the religious haters and pure sexists, racists, etc.   Peace out :icon_rr:

Forget God??? That is exactly why this world is in the shape it is in. We have taken Him out of everything and instead see ourselves as reigning supreme. Who are we as mere ignorant, seriously flawed human beings to think we could ever straighten out this mess? Think of it this way: if you are right when the time comes, then we all fade to black and nothing happens. If believers are right, well..What side would you want to be on?  :angel11:

I figure if I'm a good person your God is not going to "send" me anywhere bad when I die.  What a hateful and selfish God that would be.  Not something that I feel deserves worship.  If he does exist, I'm not really sure he has ever done anything for me...on the other hand my parents and sisters have done plenty for me that I "know" for sure.  Also I would rather fade to black than continue being conscious in heaven or anywhere else...I'm tired damn it.

First to Sohcahtoa, thank you for your post. I have heard of Pascal before but didn't know about his "Wager". That was really pretty interesting and I will probably study further.

To bub2631: You are correct. God is a selfish God. He wants us to worship him only, and no other gods (gods being anything from entities we don't see to your favorite shirt). You are also correct in stating that you don't think my God will send you somewhere bad. My God is your God and he doesn't decide where we go. We decide that for him. We decide that everyday by the way in which we live our lives. After the Crucifixion when Christ died himself to save us, God gave us the right to make our own decisions and we will be held accountable for those decisions. As for what God has done for you, look around. He gave you life. He gave you your parents and siblings. It also sounds like you've been blessed with a loving family. He gave us the earth and everything on it. The greatest gift of all was him giving us his Son who died to take away our sins. So really we don't have to work very hard to have eternal salvation. Just believe God is who he says he is and worship him with all you have. Your heart must be true. The hard part has been done for us already. I think you have raised some very valid questions and I can appreciate that. I don't want to sound like I'm preaching, I promise. I was struck by what you wrote and just wanted to share with you.

Bama, I appreciate how you put your viewpoint so kindly.  I have nothing against religion.  I was glad to see you actually live by what you believe, instead of a lot of people who get angry when I try to give my perspective on religion.  I truly appreciate that.  I have searched a long time to try and find God but my mind works on science and facts more than faith.  If there is something after death I hope to meet you in a good place and we can discuss it further, I imagine my views will have changed by then, lol.  Once again, thanks...

*ahem* Pascal's Wager

And Pascal's Wager has so many flaws it is hardly a good philosophical argument worth arguing.
If you keep reading from your own link it pretty much explains how you can take anything with no proof and make it a coin toss.

Pascal's Wager has been the target of much criticism, starting in its own day. Voltaire, writing a generation after Pascal, rejected the wager as "indecent and childish... the interest I have to believe a thing is no proof that such a thing exists." [11] But Voltaire, like many other critics, misunderstood the Wager. Pascal did not offer the wager as a proof. [12] It is merely a conclusion to his arguments against certainty that relies on the notion that reason is untrustworthy and that discerning God's actual existence appears to be "a coin toss." If reason can be trusted on the question of God's existence, then the wager simply does not apply.

I think we need more coin collectors to get their minds off other things.

I believe people need to have a sense of conscious, but some do, but they try and try but they are trying for the wrong reasons, everyone thinks they know what will make them happy, then they get it, and they are not satisfied, it is because their will always be One need we hunger for, and until we satisfy it, we will keep on aimlessly drifting after each thing, then getting it, and setting our sights on something else, because we are not fulfilled.

Like Katherine Hepburn said:  Everyone has a conscious and when they do bad things they feel bad, so you don't need religion to make you stay good.  And if you don't feel bad for doing evil things than you're just diseased...
