I'm an advocate for not having a car payment too  :highfive:  Even if it means driving something older.

Not having a car payment is wonderful!  I haven't had one for about 5 years so it will be a shock to my system to have one.  However, I am saving-saving-saving to put down a good payment so it won't be so high.  Another issue is that your car insurance goes up also! I think I am hanging on to my baby for another 2-3 years!

Get a certified pre owned car...low miles and still has warranty...you won't get hit so hard by depreciation.

I purchased my car in 1995 and still driving it.  I take care of my things and I don't worry about what some else may have.

Kudos to all you long-term car owners. I try but there's always someone out there that totals my car for me before it gets to some impressive amount of mileage.  :P

The vehicle I just traded in was a 2005 Ford Focus that I bought in 2007.  It only had about 30,000 miles on it when I bought it and it had 160,000 miles on it when I traded it in on December 30th.

Bought my first new vehicle in 2009. A Toyota Tacoma. I had saved for eight years. With 11,000 down I financed the rest for five years. Then paid it off in three. I really like this truck and hope it out lasts me.

I had a car for nearly 15 years...until I ended up in a horrible car accident. I was OK, but my car was totaled. I ended up purchasing the current car I have now as a result.
