Soup. I make a lot of soup. I make hamburger soup a lot-one of hubby's favorites, but so is beef stew, chili, spaghetti, tacos, shepherd's pie, shredded pork BBQ, steak salad (you'd be surprised how little steak it takes to make this). A 9 lb. ham gives grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, ham and string beans, sliced ham and hash browns, and bone and broth for bean soup, and other meals. Pierogies can be made different ways. Chicken pot pie (not those by Swanson or Banquet styles but home made PA dutch pot pie. Homemade mac and cheese. I make extra mashed 'taters when making them for a meal and freeze them. Quick and easy. Thaw them out, heat and stir. Done. A 4 lb. Pot roast in Crock Pot makes 2 meals for us, second one is left over beef shredded with added BBQ sauce on burger buns. Grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. Grilled cheese and tomato soup. I used to spend over $100-$150 a week or every 2 weeks for groceries. Now I spend $150 a month or every 1-1/2 months. Depends on what's on sale.
Buy everything when on sale and when it is, buy extra. Even better if you have coupons, too, but food coupons seem to be scare lately. If canned veggies are on sale, buy double or triple the amount. Same with the stock or broths if you use them, and meats When peppers are 3/$2 at the produce store, I buy 9 and clean and freeze them for various meals, usually stuffed peppers. A "meat store" sells 10 lb. chicken *bleep* for $13. They last us a month or because the *bleep* are so big, I only need a 1/2 breast for a meal.
