Lost 1 of our dogs, it is hard
« on: December 04, 2019, 05:04:56 am »
My 21 years old daughter and her 3 years old daughter live with us, when my granddaughter was born my daughter decided to get a dog for them, she rescued a 4 year Border Coli mix, very sweet and kind of a lazy dog.  He was mistreated from his previous owners, would not go in my kitchen for anything, he had Arthritis.  About a month ago he would be lazier than usual, my daughter took him to the vet they said that his arthritis was acting up, gave him some medicine and decided to put him on antibiotics for Lime disease to be on the safe side.

Well last Tuesday, I came home and found him on my entrance rug sitting there just waiting, so i took him out for a walk, my daughter came home around 8:30 pm from work, she took him out for another walk, went upstairs to get his medicine came back down, he look at her and took his last breath on her arms.  It has been the hardest thing I have had to watch and go thru.  She was totally devastated, I believe he was waiting for her to go.  It is hard when they die, but to do it in your arms I think is even worse.  She has been so sad.  :(

My spouse and i can relate. There are many animal lovers here on FC,you can expect much support.

Dont be afraid to cry.We still cry almost a yr and half later. The time and love you gave the dog was so much better then the abuse they went thru.

Down the rd you will know if you want to own again. If not be involved in helping animals, especially if they are in need.Being kind to ALL of Gods creatures is looked down upon with favor you can be assured.

My most sincere sympathies to all of you.  The little dog I am holding in my profile picture I had to have put to sleep several months ago. She was my best friend and great comfort to me after my husband died.  It broke my heart and now our two elderly cats I know their days are numbered and although my sons are grown they had these cats for almost 19 years and I know we all are going to be heart broken again.  No more I can't do this.

I always say a pet is like a family member. You have them for the longest time and then they get older or gets sick and you treat them like one of your kids. My dog went to the vet a couple weeks back because of a bad sprain in his rear leg. he is better now but we cut down on the treats

I'm so very sorry for your loss! The only dog I have lost was when I was very young so I cannot imagine.

It is always so sad to hear this. We love our pets as if they are people which makes it so tough when they die. I am very sorry for your loss.

I am so very sorry for your loss. It's never easy losing a family member, and that's what pets become.  Again, I'm so very sorry.

My goodness!  Your experience is hearbreaking.  Anyone who has had a pet for any amount of time would understand.  What's so strange is that I have heard of a number of people who have lost pets to death lately.  I mean that in the past month I have read or heard about 7-8 dogs or cats, specifically, which have died! I am so sorry.

I love my dogs and have put down three other ones. It is the worse feeling and something that I dread having to do again but I would not give up the joy that they have all brought me through the years.  Prayers for your family and time will heal the hurt

So sorry.  I was with my brother when he put his dog down at the vet, and it was awful.  And it wasn't even my pet.

That sounds similar to my story, we adopted our Sadie from the pound when she was 4 months old. We were told she was a smooth border collie, they were wrong, she was a catahoula. About 4 weeks ago Sadie was sick for the first time in her 11 1/2 years, we rushed her to the vet, she had bloodwork done and the vet thought she may have been bitten by a tick. We have never seen a tick here in the 24 years of living in this house. He gave her prednisone and an antibiotic and wanted to see her 10 days later. When she went back in for her followup and more blood work she was back to being her old self. The vet called me the next day and said her white blood cell count was still a little high and wanted to put her on an additional antibiotic. That was on Tuesday(16 days ago) and 2 days later, 2 weeks ago tonight she was gone. We aren't sure but we think it may have been the additional meds. That was so hard. We cried our eyes out, she was the healthiest dog we ever owned.
