Safety at baseball games

After what happened last week with the girl getting hit by the baseball...what are your thoughts about extending netting or adding other safety measures at baseball games?

I know our local minor league team has taken some safety measures. I think there is a delicate balance between safety and people being able to enjoy the game.

I think we can go overboard, the major league have done all kinds of things to make it safer.  Some people look forward to anything in the stands to get a foul ball for a souvenir.  It is hard to say if they need to extend it.

Hmm, that is a good recommendation to bring up. It would be a hard sell to install something as extreme as netting or other safety barriers. But the safety of the audience is paramount.

I don't know; I mean it has always been dangerous; Stadiums usually have signs everywhere about how it's your responsibility; it's sad what happened, but I think it's the risk you take going to a game.

I heard that because of that little 4 year old girl getting hit that the baseball teams have decided to bite the bullet and put up netting around the whole field even if people do complain it impacts their view of the game. It is just not worth it to have people getting hurt by those incredibly fast powerful *bleep*.

I feel netting should be around the entire thing as well.  Something like this is hard on the fans as well as the players.

It's unfortunate that this happened, especially to a child, but you can't bubble wrap the whole world. You are taking a risk every time you leave your house and even when you don't.

I agree with Imaginarygirl. We tend to go overboard when a one in a million event occurs. Some people are there to watch the game and anticipate a ball coming in their direction, actually, come to the game with a baseball glove with the idea of getting a souvenir ball. I was watching the Boston/Saint Louis game the other night and an errant hockey puck flew up over the glass. Hockey safety glass extends eight feet of the boards at each end of the rink and not less than five feet above the boards on the side of the rink. Do we now extend those glass heights? Many of us are still here today and survived not wearing seat belts or helmets in our younger days. People taking selfies in canyons fall to their death. Should we put safety nets all over our natural wonders?
