When I moved I had to buy one...I have asthma and have to do my carpets daily. I didn't have much money so I bought a Bissell PowerForce at Walmart for $39.99. It works better than the $200.00 one I left in Tucson. The bags are inexpensive also.

I would like to thank you for recommending me the bissell vacuum, I got the bissell powerforce turbo bagless and it's wonderful, I am very happy with it, its great and not too expensive I got it for $75,- but it worth every penny, the first time I used it my carpets looked very clean my old one was at no comparison with that one
Thank you all :)

I too have tried numerous vacuum cleaners in the past and found they all sucked (pun intended). My favorite is the Dyson which in my opinion is the best ever. Recently I bought a shark for the upstairs of my house (I hated lugging the vacuum up and down the stairs) and it is very good. It cost half the price of the Dyson (Dyson $499 Shark $179) and does just as good a job as the Dyson. In my opinion both are excellent choices. Good luck in your search for a good vacuum.  :)

When we got married, we did some researching online for a good vaccum cleaner to put on our registry which wouldn't be outrageous for someone to buy as a gift (ie. Dysons, Kirbys...).  We also didn't want a bagless, as from watching experiences of other family members who had them, we couldn't see how they were superior.  They made a mess emptying them and they all seemed to lose more suction as they got older, due to the filter I guess clogging with small particles?

Anyway, we decided on the Eureka Boss SmartVac.  We LOVE it.  The thing does an amazing job.  So amazing, we had to raise the agitator up a few settings higher than our old vacuum because the suction was so strong.  After a year and half, the thing is still sucking up like the first day, and with dogs, we vac a good 4-5 times a week.  I would highly recommend this vac to anyone who is in the market for a good upright.  They can be found for less than $150.

I love the Kirby and i wish i could have one even with the very steep price tag of almost 2800. If i had better credit I would have gotten one.

This information has been helpful to me as I need to replace my vacuum that I've had since the mid-eighties. The carpets don't look any different after I run it anymore, and I've worn the poor old thing out. I've heard nothing but good things about Bissell, so I think I'll start there. Thanks everyone.
