It is funny because the actual 'official, original' clip is of a man's voice and he is clearly saying Laurel, which the actual creator of the clip, the man, claims he is saying Laurel.  The debate comes in because the clip has been circulated so many times it has been 'distorted' to a hire pitch.  In this clip, which I personally heard first, and the one most news broadcasts use, is of an elderly woman's sounding voice and she is saying Yanni.  "Experts" argue the same point, that those with a 'younger' or 'higher' pitched eardrum will hear the higher sounds thus they hear Yanni.  Those with "older" or "lower" in-tuned eardrums will hear Laurel.  If one listens to the original male clip it never sounds like Yanni.  No matter how many times you listen and no matter what you are using to listen.  The clip that has been distorted to sound like an elderly female (which is the main clip in circulation right now) sounds like Yanni or a weird facsimile thus the debate is sparked.

I don't see what all the hype is all about, it really is a waste of time and people that make this stuff up get recognition for it. They are smart! lol

I have heard it a couple of times and actually what I hear really sounds more like YAMMY to me, but I have listened and have never heard Laurel.  My boyfriends also says he hears Yanni, so I guess it's not a male/female thing.

This doesn't even make sense.  If it had to do with your eardrum then you would hear the same thing every time.  I heard both and both were in the same voice.  Either way who ever made the clip is getting exactly what they want. lol

It is based on the pitch by which ear hear. It is funny because I hear Laurel distinctly and my wife hears yanni just as distinctly.  Pretty amazing.

I only hear LAUREL.   I went to pages that did adjust the bass and settings, but still can only hear Laurel.

It is not a trick. It is real.  Sitting in the same room; five of us in total three of us heard laurel and two heard yanni. I heard laurel over and over and over (it was playing in a continuous loop and not changing). My wife went into the other room and up a half flight of stairs to switch out the laundry. It changed from laurel to yanni for her when she walked into the other room, but it continued as laurel for me.

No trick. All about perception pitch and how your brain decodes the sound.

That is foolish. The audio is saying one or the other. You can't hear something different.  I can sit there and click play over and over and eventually it will change to the other word.  Unless maybe they are using like the subliminal messaging and saying both words at the same time so still one time you will hear one word and the next time you will hear the other word.

We all listened to it at the same exact time at work. Half of us heard yanny, the other half laurel. It is definitely a pitch thing from everything I have read.

Sounded very clearly like Laurel to me. Didn't even sound remotely like Yanny.
