Are you mentally ready to retire from working?

If you could financially retire, would you retire today? I would love to retire, if I could financially.

I retired several years ago. There's a lot to think about...healthcare, an income stream from whatever resources you have, when to take Social Security, what to do with all your free time.  The list is endless. However, I was blissfully unaware of all these things when I retired. And I'm happy and doing well.

I did it 15 years ago and still have no worries. If I can't make it, you guys will take care of me.

No I was not mentally ready to retire, but had no chose. Medical problems have forced me to this. Because of my back which was injured years ago I have trouble standing for long periods or lifting much. Even though I am 72 I still have a lot of time on my hands that I feel could be put to better use then vegging around the house.

I retired about five years ago and I love it! yes it was a mental adjustment at first but once  got over that I have not looked back, I do volunteer work, travel and work as a substitute teacher. It is a mind set, you just need to budget and live within your means, which I always tried to do anyway when I was full time in the workplace, but I am thankful that I am able to make it and have not have any major health challenges, but I did try and plan to the extent I could when I was working.

If I could I would love to retire.  I'd probably still work but on my own terms...if I dont like the job, I can always quit anytime.

That does not even make sense.  If I could retire today I would do so and never give it a second thought.

I had a very similar experience about two years ago.  I was not financially or psychologically ready.  Having a great deal of free time on your hands is not all it's cracked up to be.  It's not that I want to work 40 hours per week again, but I would like about 15-20 hours doing something that I enjoy and maybe pays a bit besides.

I would retire tomorrow if I could. I probably have 10-12 years before I can.
