So...there's been some debate floating around about whether he's legally qualified to be President....

I haven't read the full details and am not an legal expert by any means so I want to hear other's thoughts...

My take is that if you are a natural born citizen of the United States, you are eligible. This applies to Cruz. Both John McCain and George Romney ran for president, despite being born in the Panama Canal Zone and Mexico, respectively.

It isn't really "your take" as that is exactly what the US Constitution states. It is also why Obama was eligible to be President. A "Naturally-born" citizen is the type of citizen that gets this status at birth; again the Constitution establishes that a person is born a citizen if A) they are born inside of the US B) are born abroad but one of their parents is a citizen or C) are born abroad but in a location controlled by the US (eg a US Embassy in a foreign country). Cruz actually had dual citizenship being born in Canada with a US citizen mother, however in order to clear up any possible issues, he has since renounced his Canadian citizenship.

The other requirements to become president are that the person must be 35 years old, and the person has to live within the US for at least 15 years, although the constitution is a little unclear as to this final requirement as to whether it means 15 consecutive years prior to running for office, or just 15 years in general.

It has been mentioned by Trump about Cruz's eligibility in running for president... Cruz was born in Canada but has move to the US at a young age... The Constitution states "The candidate must be 35 years of age and a resident of the United States for 14 years" (which he is eligible).. The one in question is if he is a natural born citizen... Even he was born into Canada, he gains U.S citizenship through one of his parents.. His mother was a U.S citizen, and through her, Cruz is considered to be a natural born citizen under the U.S law: "In a number of situations, if you were born to parents, at least one of whom was a U.S. citizen at the time of your birth, you automatically gained U.S. citizenship through the process of acquisition. It does not matter whether you were born on American soil or foreign"

Many critics of Obama also questioned Obama's eligibility of President as a natural born citizen.. They believed he was born in Kenya instead of Hawaii. Also his father had dual citizenship with UK and US, so his critics argued that he wasn't a natural born citizen.. Trump I believed used to make a case of Obama, by asking him to release his birth certificate
