Christmas Tree and a baby
« on: December 02, 2015, 08:45:35 am »
Christmas is almost here but I can't decide if I put up my Christmas tree because my baby is crawler and pulled every thing he sees.

maybe put it on a table that he can't easily reach.just put a few decoration ones that won't break don't have a baby but have a cat who loves to pull stuff off the tree.

Maybe a smaller table top tree would be best.

I put up a table top tree when my kids were small. I guess the youngest was 4 when we put up a large tree. Oh  sit on the floor gazing at it.  Never had a problem then. But with 2 small ones under the age of 3, no way would I put up a large one.

I am having a time with that as well as I have a 15 month. I just put it up and put the ornaments on very tightly and keep a good eye, so far so good. You can even use a baby gate if you have one.

Well either you get a small table top tree that can be out of baby's reach or you put up the regular size tree and teach the little one right from the get go.  I always put up my regular size tree and had no problem teaching my kids "not for baby"!  Good luck no matter what you choose.

When my son was a baby, (he is now 11 years old) he was about nine months old when I put my Christmas tree up. I had wondered if it was a good idea before hand but decided that at some point, he was going to have to learn that there were some things he could touch, and some things he could not. No sooner had I put my tree up that he crawled over to it and started touching the Christmas lights. I told him off, because obviously it was not safe for him to touch the electrical lights, he was upset and confused, because until that moment, he would always come to me when he was upset. But the person who he would normally come to, was the very person who had just upset him. So I saw him take a couple of steps toward me, and then a couple of steps backwards. I will remember his little face forever.

Put up the tree & just watch your child.  If they touch the tree don't yell at them, just move their hand gently & tell them no & why.  They can't understand really, but moving the hand away & no.  You don't have to yell at them, or scare them or hit them. You don't have to traumatize kids to guide their behavior.    And don't laugh at them, then they'll just think you like it & it becomes a game.   Perhaps turn the lights off.
