big tree in yard fell
« on: June 19, 2015, 06:22:04 pm »
it was dead and just decided that was it i'm done.we were at home just doing whatever and the 20ft tree  fell. it damaged our car a little but that was about all.My son will rent a chain saw he's used one before and other son will come and help.Nice to have grown boys for this kind of thing .Its a real mess now glad it fell away from the house. Birds live in the tree wonder what they'll do.Called the home insurance and we have a 1000.00 deductable so won't bother with that. The car has a couple dents and paint damage oh well.

Glad there wasn't any serious damage, the birds will find a new home.  :)

Glad it worked out reasonably well for you.  I have a lot of trees around my house - one fell during a storm but it fell exactly by the side of the house.  Yes grown sons are a blessing mine cut up the tree and eventually little by little the garbage people picked it up by the road although they certainly didn't want to lol it was like pulling teeth.

Our huge oak tree, which is over 200 years old (one of the oldest in the county), lost 3 huge chunks of limbs last year.  I was in tears because we loved that tree.  The funny thing is if you are standing on one side, you can't even tell they are gone.  I don't even know the circumference of the trunk; I'm not good at estimating that type of thing, but it is really large.  We got an estimate for taking the whole thing down - over $5000.  Just cleaning up the limbs that fell cost $1500.  Several years ago, we had what is called a micro wind come through and took off the top.  My husband says water was let into the middle of the tree because of the damage and there is rot there.  Now we're not sure what to do about the rest.  It will cost more than $3000 to take the rest of the tree down.
