Have you ever been read your Miranda rights by someone from law enforcement?

"You have the right to remain silent and everything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law, blah, blah, blah."

I recently learned that if you're in a situation where someone is reading you your Miranda rights you should always say....

Lawyer or Attorney.

Even if you have nothing to hide your statements can be misconstrued or twisted and used against you or someone you love.  The truth is the truth and some people can't be trusted.  Unfortunately, that's the hard, cold reality we deal with.

I don't understand why you should say lawyer or attorney?

I'm not sure either, but I have heard that your silence can also be used against you, esp. if you had started talking to the police, but became quiet when they started asking harder questions. So I guess by saying you'll only talk after having a lawyer present (and that is all you say), then your silence isn't looked as being guilty but rather the proper exercise of your rights.

I have never been read Miranda Rights, if fact I wasn't sure until now how you pronounced it or spelt it! I have never been stopped by the police for speeding, running a red light or otherwise. I was saying to my husband the other day that it is such an alien concept for me (being stopped by the police I mean) that I think if I were pulled over, I would be heartbroken and would have to cry my eyes out! You probably think I have had a sheltered life, and I probably have.

I have never been read my Miranda Rights.  Although I have been pulled over plenty of times, I have never been arrested.  I was in the military for a few years and was once detained by military police and then released.  I was also once over seas on deployment and was detained briefly by foreign police officers asked questions and released.  Thank goodness never a day in jail but a night or two of routine police procedures.  They can hassle you and give you a hard time even when you are completely co-operative.

yes unfortunatley this is what we must do  to protect our own selves in this age that we live in ..unfortunatly  it seems that we cant trust the people that we could 20 or 30 years ago.
 my cousin had a  situation she wasnt in any kind of trouble where she needed a lawyer but non would take her case  so she was forced to try to get thru her case on her own.  what she said was twisted by the lawyer an just like that her case was lost.

Every one can get a lawyer, if nothing else check with the leagal rights group. They always seem ready to go to court.
