I think it is different to a point whether they live with you in your home or you live with them in their home.  We lived with my in-laws when we were newly married and having a house built and it was a disaster.  But I think if the turf is yours rather than theirs it might be different.  i don't know but I do wish you both the best of luck with it.

P.S.  My real advice would be the same as for marital or any other relationship.  Don't let misunderstandings or upsetments fester - keep communication open. You seem like a giving person who always seeks resolution to things so I am betting you guys are going to be just fine.

We lived with my in-laws for about 6 months when we had our first home built.  We probably had a very easy time.  They had a split and we had the downstairs to ourselves, a bedroom, bathroom, and livingroom.  We had to go up for the kitchen.  We put a small refrigator in the livingroon for sodas, snacks, etc.  it really worked out well.  We all worked and all pitched making suppers and i cleaned our 'apartment' did our laundry and we paid rent (even though they did't want us to).  It worked out great and I really learned to love them both as if they were my parents.

Thanks aggie.  Had another round of chemo.  I know you kniw how that is, my hair is starting to fall out today, i hate that!  The chemo is making me very tired, all I want to do is sleep.  Thank you so much for your prayers and concern.  I pray things will work out for you with your mother in law.  You are a really great person and I would love to really get to know you!

Open, honest communication with her.  Find a way to make it a win/win.  What's in it for her?  What's in it for you?  Keep in mind that if you give too much and sacrifice too much--you will naturally feel resentful.  Let her know that the situation should be good for everyone concerned or changes might have to take place.

Are you territorial?  I am, which means I would have to designate a place in my home where I can be alone whenever I need time alone.

Have a great day!

I lived with my in-laws for almost two years when my husband was in the military.  They were condescending to me.  In front of other people, my mother-in-law acted like I was a daughter; when I was alone with her, she degraded me constantly.  I was too young and not used to dealing with people to fight back.  I never told my husband until much later.  Now, after all these years, I still have what I call "anger dreams"  where I scream my anger at them.  And I'm not a screamer.  I should have resolved it before they passed away.

One of the many things in this world that I just don't have to worry about.  I'm not married...so therefore no inlaws.  I am trying to enjoy it while it lasts!!!
