I always preferred the machines as well.  For me it helped make sure I was going it right and keeping proper form.  Also you have more options when you use machines.

I think that both choices offer benefits based on what it is that you are attempting to accomplish. If power and shaping are your goals I would lean towards free weights. If creating better tone and minimizing injury are the goals I would head to the machines.  I personally like using a combination of both with a focus on free weights (higher repetitions on problem areas). I think that it is key to only work weight three days a week and alternate that with three days of cardiovascular workouts (running/biking/rowing). And I usually finish my weight work outs with twelve minutes of cardio so that I can keep the pounds off of my body and reduce my fat percentages.

Free weights will work more muscles because they force you to use your stabilizers.

I think machines are fine when you're starting out to work on form and decrease chance of injury. Once you get to a certain point the machines really won't benefit you anymore and you need to move on to free weights and barbells. I usually prefer to do more compound exercises which you really can't do as much with machines

I love the elliptical. They're good for toning yourlegs, but you should do weights too. Talk to your gym owner about a free training, they will show you what  all the machings do and how they can benefit you.

Be careful with some machines because they can be very dangerous.

I  like both the machines and weights.
The bike and elipical are great for me because the strenghthen my legs and give me cardio workout.
The weights help build muscle, strength, balance and core workout :rainbow: :pumpkin:

I prefer using the machine because it gives you good form and also a secluded area for you to work out

I like free weight and it works faster.  Just use lower weights and more reps.

A lot of people prefer machines because they are easier.  Simple concept, they are easier because you don't get as much out of it.  Free weights are far better but there are certain exercises that you have to have a machine to do.

I use both.   I use the free weights for the biceps, triceps, deltoids and latissimus dorsi.  Machines for the legs.
