If a person is found disabled unable to work and receiving disability, later on decide that SSA is not enough to make in meet and then try to work on the side, Do you think it is a set up by the government that allows you to work so many hours and then cut you off ?

I am "partially" disabled due to a knee sarcoma so I can't walk well and can't sit for long periods without swelling.

Although I supposedly qualify for disability, I didn't apply for it because I had enough to deal with with the doctor appointments (4 specialists) and the radiology oncology, and Medicaid denials 4 times because hubby was still self-employed. Anyway, stress is not something to have with this "disease," and it usually takes 2 years for your first denial. I didn't need to deal with that.

My niece is on disability and she was denied twice but now qualifies (Aspberger's) and receives a nice check every month. A friend is on it because she has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.  Knowing my luck, I wouldn't qualify even though you can see my ugly non-knee now due to surgery.

you can check out the matter on the web. SSA.gov I believe will get you there, there should be a link devoted to all matters concerning SSA Disability. I know that there are some restrictions but not all work is prohibited, and what is allowed must be reported.

Hi,

If you are seriously considering this option you should seek the advice of a Social Security Advocate such as someone at Goodwill Industries (which you can google). Places like this can help you sort out the rules and help you determine how much money you can make. Also they will tell you things like the maximum with the least amount of withdrawal from your disability check. You may be allowed deductions.

Not that they should come after you but you do not want to rely on SSA for your advice. They can answer questions anonymously if you call them.

After doing this you would be in a better position to get the most and kept your benefits protected.

the good news is, if you are still working, then you are still paying in and this increases your monthly down the line, or is the overall?  I forget, just know that it pays to work, if you can still do it...  for me, this is my work now... and very grateful that these sites are here for us!  Thanks FC!

a lot of people that i know will either work part time throughout the year until they reach the number of hours allowed and then take off for the remainder of the year only living off ssa or they will work throughout the entire year only a couple of hours a week.

I know that you are able to work part time for a short period of time.  If you are able to work part time then they will tell you to go back to work full time you are no longer disable.   It may change from state to state.

I think that this is not a cut and dry case in all situation. Each case should be judge individually.

There are a lot of people that are using the system. My doctor and my psychiatrist both say there are too many people getting help by saying that they are crazy or bipolar.

The system is being abused by many people who don't want to work and are perfectly healthy.  Evidently it is quite easy for people to claim mental problems and let the taxpayers support them.

They start by cutting back on your check. You are allowed to make so much. Im not sure what that is.

I am on SSD and can not work. You need to contact SS before you try to do any work as the rules are different for different situations.

As I said before, I'm disabled, not that I want to be but having MS makes me do, and I don't work and earn a bit doing FusionCash...
