Suggest that one of the first tasks you perform is installing a GOOD antivirus program, best I have found to date is AVAST, it is free and a ton better than most of the trash that comes bundled with new computer software.  :)

I won't know until later today if this works on the new Windows 8 laptop I should see delivered soon, but the first thing I will do is install Browser Linux on a thumb drive so when I am traveling I can boot from that and protect my Windows. Oh I will install an anti-virus, but that is nowhere near enough for me.

Yet another way that companies make money which I hate- making products incompatible so that you have to buy a new version. I had to wait a year after I got my windows 8 pc for it to be compatible with my hp laserjet printer. They didn't have the proper software at the time smh

Try using a usb to ethernet (usb on printer, ethernet to computer) cable to test out that your computer can print manually...  If you can't you probably have several issues on your comp or your printer... There should be no compatibility issue if you do it manually, since your computer is directly communicating with your printer

If you can use manual, then you probably have to reinstall drivers again on the computer provided by the installation disk of the printer.. Or if you can't install the installation disk correctly (probably Windows 8), you have to use compatibility mode to make it work

I know how you feel. I went to my cousin house to use her computer and since it was old it took so long to do anything. My computer isn't too old and I give thanks for that because at lease I can do things little faster. The new the computer the better it is. Congrats to you for the new computer!!!!!
