Bad credit rating due to loss of income
« on: April 11, 2014, 07:23:59 pm »
Are you dealing with credit rating due to loss of income.
It's difficult to get a consolidation loan to pay off the Debt so
I can raise my credit rating.

Anyone having any success with getting a consolidation loan
From a finance company that don't charge a arm and a leg to get
A loan?

my credit has taken a huge hit after my son was born and my job basically let me go by making it impossible for me to return to work, so i became a stay at home mom because all of my pay was going to be going to pay for child care.  since then a debt collector calls at least twice a day we pay what we can each month some months as little as $25 but we are attempting to pay off the debt.  I haven't seen my rating but im sure its horrible.  i try to not let it bother me because my spouses rating is very high almost 800 but i know that if anything were to go wrong with us i would be up the creek so to say. I have looked into consolidation but have run into the same issues as you mention.  i think that they would rather keep you in debt that help you out of it.

Have you tried places like credit counseling?  I worked with a girl who used it.  You pay no fees, they contact all your creditors and the creditors will lower your monthly payment and waive all late charges.  She sent them (credit counseling) a check once a month and they sent checks to her creditors.  It took her about 2 years but she got all the bills paid.  She swore by it.  Good luck!

I have to ask how is it that she did not pay any fees. Most of the credit counseling companies mention fees?

It is going to be hard to get a loan with NO income.  And the longer you go with no income and no job the harder it is to get a job.  Sad huh.  Sometimes if you call the company you owe money to they will work with you if you explain your situation.  Don't just not pay and avoid their calls.  Most of the people are really nice, understand your situation, and will try to help.  Not all will but it is worth it to call.

Do you have a credit card?  Some will do a balance transfer at zero interest or low interest.  That will get it all on one payment.

Good luck.  I had been out of work for a long time before I got my current job.  It is an hour drive from my home but it is a pay check.

We used a credit counselor years ago. It was a non-profit company but we still had to pay them a fee every month. Not a large amount but still there was a fee.

Yeah, I would be wondering if she either lied about the fees or didn't realize she was being charged.  The fees are how these companies make money.  Never heard of them doing it all for free for anyone.
