I get a call the other day (one that I've been getting every day-or-so for the past week) telling me that--because of my answers on some survey and because of my not having a criminal record (or something ... hard to understand with the Far East accent)--the Federal government wants to give me about $7,000 ...

But they CAN'T send it to me because I don't have a 'bank account'-number.

Then I get a call from a magazine-subscription company, telling me they want to give me a bunch of subscriptions at a really-good rate. I agree, and get `em all "ordered"; then find out they can't 'put in my order' because I can't give them CASH over the phone (and apparently they can't-give me an address to send CASH to or -bill me by mail).

Is there no respect for CASH any more?

It's a travesty if you ask me.  I value my cash and look at each coin as if it's a bit of a treasure hunt.  Imagine the stories our material money could tell if it could speak like a fly on the wall.  Latest word I heard is the penny is going to be nixed and the nickel may begin to be made out of copper.  One of the problems I see with cash is many youth are unable to do simple math transactions without tapping an equation into a compter.  Remember giving a cashier a penny $25.01 to get an even $5 back...rather the loose $0.99 returned to you in loose change with a few bucks.  I gave a cashier a 6 cents the other day after she ran the transaction and she looked at it;  gave me a blank stare and said you've already paid ma'am.  I took my 6 cents in addition to the rest of the change she was giving me and said, "my mistake."

That's how it was back when money was 'on a standard.' Used to be that every bill or coin stood for a specific bit of gold (or silver, if JFK's Executive Order was ever 'official'); now all that has to happen for 'more cash' to exist is for someone to go get approved for a loan at a bank, when the bank-official just 'writes' the money into existence!

They COULD if people would record those stories on TrackDollar or Where's George! (I use TrackDollar alone, because 1) I only mark almost-half of the bills I record & 2) I mark `em in handwriting---& trackdollar is one letter shorter than wheresgeorge.

(And yes; marking your bills IS-TOO legal, if you don't mark-out or change any of the markings printed thereon ... when they train people at banks to see counterfeits; they don't show them any 'tricks people might use,' the just show `em 'what REAL cash-money is' :)
