Soda Stream
« on: January 01, 2014, 01:33:23 pm »
Has anyone ever used the Soda Stream?  I was thinking about buying one but don't want to spend the $100.00 if it's not worth it or it doesn't taste good.  Thanks for any help.

In my honest opinion the soda stream is not worth it.
You pay $70 and up for the machine itself which only really makes about a shot of soda..
Then you have to buy the soda stuff itself which can range anywhere from $5 and up
so in reality you are paying twice as much really if you were just drinking regular soda.
They say that it's alot easier storage than soda's but how is that? the containers are not small they are about the same size as 1 can.. But you will be buying more than one of those so depending on your amount of room and how many soda's you drink in a day.. Is going to determine that factor.. I don't see the point in it really when you can just go to the store and buy some of those flavoring packets that have like 10 packets and up and you just put it in water and you forget about it.. Thought itself is a nice idea. But to me it's not worth all the hassle.. Remember this is just my opinion ther eare other opinions out there i'm pretty sure some good ones on the soda stream.

i have a friend that uses one.  he said it tasted just like the real thing, you just had to take time to figure out how much carbonation to use on it first

Where are you looking at one for $100?  They are only $79 at Walmart.  You can also order from thier site for a LOT less than $100.  I have one and I really like it.

One shot of soda?  It makes a liter at a time.  That is quite a bit.  You are correct in that the syrup is around $5 but it makes soda 50 times according to the label.  2 tbls per serving 50 servings per bottle.   Those flavor packets just flavor your water.  It doesn't carbonate it.  Which is what makes it like colas.
When I bought mine the people at Walmart were very discouraging basically trying to talk me out of purchasing it. lol.  Idk.  I love mine.  I don't guzzle soda all day so to me it is worth it.  I guess if you drink 2 or 3 2 liters a day (like my neighbor) then it might cost more.  But probably not because he doesn't drink generic. lol

Hmmm Very intresting information.. On the tv it looks like a shot of soda at a time..I was really wondering how they could put something like that out and it only make 1 shot at a time.. I guess looks can be decieving but since I do not own one i  will take your word for it.. I still don't really know if it would be worth the money to me.. I guess the only way to really tell is to test it myself which i usually debate for a while in my head. LOL these voices these voices i hear them! Bahaha jk.. any..who... The packets do flavor water.. but it still gives you diffrent flavors they also have soda flavors too I try some every now and then.. Since i haven't really had a crush soda.. i have no idears if it tastes like the real thing.. But you are correct it is not carbonated. Still is cheaper though.. Ah well.. Diffrent people diffrent opinions. Got to love the freedom to express your thoughts. Glad you are enjoying your soda stream! Now with this new information i will highly re consider my constructive thoughts on the soda stream and debate weather or not i will actually try this product. Would be nice to try the product before you buy it lol.. I WISH! :p

I think another benefit of the soda stream is that you can reuse the bottles, so that your environmental impact isn't as great. Still, I don't have one nor have I tried it, so I can't state anything about the taste...

Most of the syrups are 4.99 and you use 1 capful in a liter.  So it's gonna last quite a while.  The syrups are not made with high fructose so it tastes like the zero colas.  Not like diet but not like the sweet sodas.  I would rather have that. lol.  I like the packet things you are talking about too.  And you could probably mix that up and carbonate it although it says not to carbonate anything but water then add your flavor cause you could cause an explosion.  But you could carb your water then add the packets and that might cost less.  :D
I went back and forth too and I finally got it for Christmas.   They were offering a $25 rebate in the form of a Walmart gift card that you get at the register when you buy the delux kit which was $79.  I am not sure how long the carbonation thingey will last.  I would recommend it.  And thanks.  You have given me a new idea of something to try.  :D

I read somewhere something about carbonating water with yeast but that just sounds gross.
