Curling
« on: December 08, 2013, 01:24:09 pm »
Does anyone know that curling is a sport? I guess it's more popular up north cause my boyfriend has been talking about it. Could anyone tell me what curling is? All I know is that they throw a thing down the ice rink and then sweep in front of it. Does anyone watch curling on tv?

I played a couple of games of curling while I was in Calgary, Canada.  It is a sport that as far as I could describe it would be shuffle board on ice.  It takes two teams of two people.  A flat on one side stone is sent down the ice and a person with a broom sweeps in front of the stone to change the direction of the stone to where the team wants it to stop.  I understand it is considered an Olympic sport.  My expierence with it was that it was a good way to fall down and bust your butt.

lol.  I thought you were talking about curling your hair. I was going to say I spend 30 to 45 minutes straightening mine.  When I wash it and dry it and straighten it it takes like 45 minutes.  But I can go a couple of days and not have to wash it and just straighten it and that only takes like 20 minutes.

Okay, I am way off topic here since you are not talking about hair.  To answer your question - Nope, I don't know what curling is.   ;)

Countrygirl12, This is hilarious! Thank you for giving me a laugh! Sarahlee, I have never heard of this sport, and I come from a sports obsessed family!

Yes, I have heard of curling but really don't know the rules or anything.

I've never played it but I've watched it before.  Ever play bocce (kinda like lawn bowling) cause it's kinda like that.

You slide this rock down an alley of sorts and attempt to get it as close to the center of the target as possible.  However, you take turns with your opponents, so while you may get the exact center of the target, they could knock you out of there with their turn.  Also, people take advantages of geometry to hit multiple targets at the same time, like if you've played pool and bounced a ball into others to knock them in.

I believe the scoring comes down to how many stones you have within the target area at the end, but it's been years since I've watched it, so I don't know for sure.

They never show curling on TV where I live.  We did enjoy watching it during the Olympics.
Have a wonderful day!

I have watched it on TV before and it seems like fun if you can ice skate, which I can't

Hey, do you think we could make curling your hair into a sport?  We could set standardized parameters, such as the diameter of the curling iron in relation to the length of the hair, penalties for burns on the skin, separate categories for naturally curly hair, permed hair, and straight hair...
