how convincing can you be [are you] when you tell them about a good idea?
do other people even really listen to you?

Depends on the idea and the audience.  For my family/friends, most listen and like some of my ideas - and the only reason they don't act on it is it is not a priority for them.

At work, I tend to have people listen a bit more to my ideas as I've been in my field long enough to become and expert in certain niche business/technical areas.  I usually keep quiet and listen, so when I do propose ideas, I have a reputation for having well thought out plans and reasons for the ideas - so most of mine tend to be acted upon for the greater good of our clients.
