piercings and tattoos
« on: July 27, 2009, 03:00:57 pm »
ok quick question i wanted to see what everyones opinion was reguarding piercings and tattoos with women or men over 18. a bunch of my friends and myself were hanging out and i mentioned i got a new tattoo done and that led into the discussion about wether or not it was a bad example to have tattoos and piercings when your a parent, wether or not its a rebelious stage that most people out grow by the time they reach their twentys. personally i have three ear piercings that i've had since i was 14 and i also have a nose piercing and three tattoos. i dont think im wild or a bad example to my son all of my tattoos are in places that are coverable. but when my friends and i talked this over it was a split topic mainly my guy friends thought it was a bad example and the girls didn't, although it could have something to do with the fact that most of my girl friends have piercings, tattoos, or both, and most of the guys didn't..... what are everyones thoughts on this? ???

A few piercings and tattoos are one thing, but those that cover themselves in them I don't like that.  I think if it's kept to a minimal it's ok.  I, on the other hand, am too much of a chicken for either!!  My ears are pierced and that's as far as it'll go with me.  I hate needles... I didn't even have an epidural with son because of the needle... strange, I know, but I'm was more terrified of that needle that I was of labor!  I would like a tattoo, but I need to get over the needle fear first!!

i've seen tasteful tattoos in tasteful places.
and i've seen trashy tattoos in trashy places.
i think its all in how you carry yourself, and
your actions overall...

i do think there's a point where society deems it
"inappropriate" for you to be sporting an eyebrown ring
(or something similar) with a baby on your hip.
i think its seen as immature, and to some, immoral.
and although these are rather judgmental ways of thinking,
you lose respect as a parent in the eyes of the people
who think this way.

i, for one, don't think that tattoos or piercings
affect your ability to be a good parent. but like someone
else said, don't overdo it  :)

I have a tattoo and a nose ring (haven't worn it in a very long time).  I don't plan on becoming a parent but I don't feel my tattoo is offensive in fact it has spiritual and cultural significance that I would incorporate into my child's life (if I had one) because it's part of my heritage.  I was an adult when I got my tattoo and piercing and I knew I would have my tattoo for the rest of my life so I chose something that had meaning to me and something I wouldn't be embarrassed to have when I'm old.  I can also cover it up easily or choose to show it off if I wanted.

I have always wanted a tattoo of a Tasmanian devil (TAZ is the best) but I'm afraid of the pain.  I've heard different things from people.  How painful is getting a tattoo or does it depend on where you want to get it.

I would like a tattoo, but I need to get over the needle fear first!!

I totally agree!

tats are hot on girls, but don't over due it, 1 or 2 and you gotta place them right.

Where's a good place to get my tattoo?  Any suggestions?  I just want the head of Taz somewhere.

I really wanted a tongue ring but I'm afraid that it's going to interfere with me eating food for a while.  Does anyone have one?  How long did it take to heal?  Did it hurt much?

Is there an age where you should just not get a tattoo or stop getting them?  I may be too old to get one! LOL!

I personally feel that niether should affect your ability to raise and care for a child. I feel that tatts may not be for everybody and sometimes people that are in to this are some what in it for expression of thier personality.
I myself have 8 piercings in my ears, a tongue ring and 9 tatts. All of my tatts tells a story of some part of my life.
Now I'm not saying that I'm into all the facial and body piercings but I don't knock anyone either.
I think the world is too judgemental when it comes down to a person whom is different. And I think that worrying and caring about what other people think is clearly over rated.
IT DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR NATURAL INSTINCT AND ABILITY TO BE A LOVING AND NUTURING MOTHER!!! I don't think that it sets a bad example. Everyone was made to be different and do different things. Everything is not meant for everybody.

It is not a bad influence or anything like that, if you want tattoos and piercings its your body, your choice. It will not effect your parenting ability, nor your childs opinion on you.
