Parents and Violent Video Games
« on: June 14, 2013, 01:27:09 pm »
If you are a parent with a young child(ren) who enjoy playing video games, would you let them play video games which has guns? Would you say no to guns but not have a problem with swords?

I think it depends on the age of the children and just how graphic the video game is. You just need to research the game and determine what your own personal limits are. I know as a kid, I could not play any type of violent shooting or fighting game until I was in junior high, age 13 I think. Whatever you decide, I think it is most important to limit a child's time playing any sort of video game. Kids these days depend so much on technology, it is ridiculous. I just want to tell kids to get outside and play, just enjoy being a kid!

I try to discourage my six year old from any type of violent games.  He has older friends who play them and really wants to experience the games they do.  I only allow him to play E games.  I agree that I am the parent as well who tells him enough already with the video games and to go outside and play.

Yeah, at my age there were no cell phones, no apps, no video games and we spent most of the time playing outside, making mud pies, traveling in cars with no seat belts, with dash boards in the car made of metal, no crash balloons or whatever they call it in the cars, no texting, just good ole going to the drive inn movies, making out, back and front seat, getting home late, being grounded by our parents, teachers were respected, and when the principle called I knew when I got home I got a spanking, grounded and well........ them were the good old days. Not everyone got sued by an attorney, not everyone locked there doors, not everyone was on medication, and everyone knew there neighbors. Well times have changed.

Video games, even as adults you watch them, and tell me they don't have an effect even on you no matter your age. Sure you can say that is ridiculous, or that is bad, but tell me are you not affected in some way? Good or Bad. Just turn on the TV and watch the rest of the world, the killing the slayings the real blood shed and sacrifice, why don't we make video games to teach how to stop this, instead of boy, I killed a few more Zombies, or you can change the word to others like.......,,,, yeah We need to go in a more positive direction with video games no?

my sons are in their 20's and they love Grand Theft Auto when they were younger a lot of guns and shooting ,throwing people out of cars fun stuff. They now like madden and wrestling ones, but if the kids are young no need to play those violent games yet all their friends new of the game.matter of fact a new grnd theft is coming out  next year maybe.I believe it will be a hit like the rest.

I'm not a parent, but if I were, it would depend on the maturity of the child. There's nothing wrong with playing these types of games so long as the kid understands that they are fantasy. And like many others, I think video game time should be limited in general in lieu of more outdoors time/creative play.

I don't like any of those violent games...it really effects their minds. Movie watching too. Stay away from it! You won't regret it.

If I was a parent, I wouldn't mind them playing those type of games, but i'm definitely going to be teaching them what's moral and what not while they're playing.

I let they boys play Minecraft that kills zombies and night creatures but not Halo...which is a much more violent and graphic game.
