Using Hashtags on Facebook.... OK or Not OK????

Ok so apparently you can't HASH-TAG at the end of a status on fb, only twitter?? What about instagram?? What is the point of a hashtag anyway...

A hashtag is the sign of the #3 key on your computer.  My understanding is that it is only used on Twitter.  Why it is used remains a mystery.

They are supposed indicate what the tweet/message/post is about
