Unless you live in a major city inside your state, your state representatives may not have much power to do anything. I think if you really have concerns about your city's laws, you should try to do things more local in order to get change. Voice your views at a local council / school board meeting. Or write an opinion piece for your local newspaper. And of course make sure you vote in all elections, from your local mayoral race up to the presidency.
