Rebekah,

Once again, angry atheists are taking aim at our National Motto.

Days ago, the radical Freedom From Religion Foundation, which tries to rid America of any trace of its religious heritage, filed a lawsuit to remove our National Motto – "In God We Trust" – from our currency.

They claim our coins are discriminatory.

Yet acknowledging and respecting our nation's religious heritage, and the hope and trust of its Founders, is not "discrimination" – it's a celebration of our shared history.

What's next? Striking the word "Creator" from the Declaration of Independence?

At the ACLJ, we're fighting back. Working with Members of Congress, we intend to file a critical brief in the case supporting our national heritage and the right of our nation to acknowledge God in our history and culture. We want you to join this brief. Make your voice heard.

These flawed challenges have failed in the past. Let's make sure this federal lawsuit is rejected, too.

The phrase "In God We Trust" was never originally on money.  It was put there sometime during the 1950s and had to do with the Communist scare.

The United States was never meant to be a Christian Nation.  The founding fathers wanting each religion to be accepted, which is why there were so many different divisions of religions early in American History.  Also, the Treaty of Tripoli expressly states that we are not a Christian Nation.

We are a nation that is supposed to be free for everyone.  And everyone means everyone.  It does not mean giving preference to a religion, to a race, or to a set of beliefs.

So what if it gets removed?

I am sure removing it from money will not stop Christians from being Christians or Atheists from being Atheists.

People will complain about it.  That is what will happen.  Other than that, not much.

Money will spend just as well regardless of what is on it.  So who cares?  Worry about something really important like hunger or illiteracy.

as someone else stated, that phrase wasn't even on our currency until the late twentieth century.

if people need constant reminders to keep god first, then their religiosity is really weak.
