Locks on doors
« on: November 21, 2012, 07:57:47 am »
What do you think is the best type of lock?
Thick bolt locks are the sturdiest, in my opinion.
The door to my apartment has a simple lock that I just turn to the right to lock.
It is wide and thick.
I remember when I was in high school how frustrating the key locks were with 3 number combinations.
All the students  had trouble using them every day.

Someone told me once: "You cannot stop them (people trying to break-in)...but you can slow them down". Consult your locksmith!

Deadbolts are considered the best.  If you are at home and are locking from the inside, those bars you block the door with are an added protection.

The deadbolt lock is still one of the best for house doors, and Master Locks are one of the best for lockers, sheds etc...

Wow I never thought of that but it's so true, its only momentarily you will fend them off but they will come for what they want. It's so scary, makes me want my personal Xena Warrior Princess  ;)

I am very lucky.  Although my apartment door has a doorknob lock and a deadbolt both, I live in a very boring small town where nothing ever happens.  We can sleep around here in the heat of the summer with the door wide open and nothing ever happens.  It's very nice.  I have never heard in this town at all of a residential or business break-in and am really thankful that people around here can be so neighborly, friendly and caring to each other.  It doesn't seem to be that way at all when I go into Cincinnati (which is the nearest big city to me).

I would prefer dead bolt locks, because regular locks are obsilete, played out. People can get into your home easely with regular locks. I heard a guy say he was locked out of his apartment and opened his door with a credit card. I asked him did he have dead bolt locks, he said no. Get dead bolt locks, its safer. ::)

We (and the bank own our home) and we just moved in a few days ago and I'm going to go with the lock that came with the house, it does have three though.

I don't think it really matters.  We lock our doors to keep honest people honest.  People can get past any lock on our door if they really want to so it is all relative to me.
