Online learning

What are your opinions on online learning (academics) in high school?

I would also be interested in the discussion on this.  I am too many years beyond highschool that I can't relate - but wonder how online education is working statistically.

I can't say for high school. However, my kids have been learning in the virtual environment throughout elementary and middle school. Last year, we switched virtual schools and opted for one that offers in person tutoring and weekly enrichment classes. My 7th grader is getting high school credit for Algebra and my 5th grader is doing pre-algebra. I like that they can learn at their own pace and that if I can't figure out how to help my kids on a topic, there is a support system in place if I want to use it.

My kids, I am blessed, are self-motivated, self-starting, and self-pacing.  I think that this skill will help them in their future careers. Right now, I don't really have to get on their case as far as getting their work done. They simply do it and their curriculum is written so they can be self-taught, but ask me questions when they do not understand.
