TMNT 2012
« on: September 29, 2012, 10:11:04 am »
The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon premiered today, and it seems Nickelodeon decided for this series to be a remake of the 1987 cartoon version rather than the 2003 version. It is less serious and Splinter has a human origin. He was a human who purchased four baby turtles from a pet shop, spied on someone he passed on the streets and didn’t trust, which led to Splinter fighting in self defense until the mutation chemical spilled on him and his pets. The series began with Splinter allowing the four turtles to explore the surface, where they got to taste pizza for the first time, and later meet April (now a high school aged kid) and Donatello has a crush on her.

Sounds a bit different than the original. Splinter (Hamato Yoshi) was a human martial artist who was kicked out of the foot clan in japan after being sabotaged by his rival (later known as Shredder). Splinter started a new life in the sewers of New York city and found four turtles who were accidentally dropped into the sewers. They later get covered in a mutagen causing the turtles to become more human and splinter to become more rat like base on exposure. He teaches them the art of ninjitsu and they later find Shredder is responsible for the the mutagen which he thought would kill Splinter. I only watched the original series but i did see the movie cross over with both versions and liked it.

I gotta say, I prefered the '87 version to the '03. This is one show that I will be following! Good info! Thanks for the share! I'm a pretty big fan

TMNT began as a comic, and from what I heard, the reason why Splinter taught ninjitsu to the four turtles was because he wanted them to take revenge on Shredder for killing Hamato Yoshi.

I would like to see someone create a TMNT cartoon that follows the dark story of the comics.

Some people might remember Krang. The 2003 cartoon had the aliens known as Utroms. The Utroms appear in the 2012 cartoon but they are called The Kraang.

I think the 2003 version had the better Shredder (except for turning him into an Utrom). He was a threat and the 1987 Shredder had moments when he would whine and throw tantrums.

I saw the first episodes yesterday, and I must say I'm quite pleased with it.They tried to take it back a bit with Splinter being human like the 80's show, but to be honest,I always liked that storyline.

The only thing I'm not sure about was the new Krang robots. They came off pretty silly and uninspiring.

Looking forward to seeing The Shredder in action!

Google JediJohnnie and May the Force be with you!

The animation is weird. Nothing will ever top the version I grew up with.

The third episode aired today, but I missed the first half of it because I had forgotten about it. The villain in this episode, Spiderbites, had a weird design. He was supposed to be a man who mutated into a spider creature but barely had spider features. The previous villian, Snakeweed, was a man (named Snake) who mutated into a plant creature but he at least looked like a plant.

What do you think about Spiderbites?

I am always dissapointed when I see the new turtles shows.  I loved TMNT when I was growing up and I just can't get into these new ones.  Nothing beats the original with the turtles for me.

The original Ninja Turtles is not the 1987 cartoon, but the comics.
