Being a leader
« on: July 05, 2012, 04:57:28 pm »

People always say

"To be a good leader you must first be a good follower."

But, what if you're just bossy?

Ordering people around doesn't make a person a leader; even if they're filling a leadership role.  I'd have to see the context of what you mean by bossy though.  In business, military, and sometimes even among friends information gets passed down the chain.  The person giving an order may only give you the necessary information they feel you need to complete a task.  You may feel they're being bossy with out seeing the full picture.  In some cases some people are just megalomaniacs that try to exert what ever power they're given onto other people.  Example would be someone trying to force you to carry their briefcase around all day long versus someone giving you a task to replace all the ink cartridges in the office.  Both might seem silly, but only one is wrong.  =-P

A real leader has to be able to listen to people. Just busting out orders does not mean you are a leader and being bossy is not the defination of being a leader. You have to connect and be able to get people to follow you because they believe in you!!

I found out early that it was not my job to do all the work myself, but knowing that with a bad attitude didn't help either. So I simply changed it and began to look at it a little differently. It's not my job to do all the work myself... It's my job to train you how to do mine! In turn, you need to train the person under you to do your job and so on! Every leader with this mindset is a good leader!
