Dragon movies.
« on: December 31, 2011, 01:25:36 pm »
I have to say that I have a huge collection of Dragon movies and only two actually get the portral of Dragons correctly.  Having researched the creatures for almost twenty years I get so disappointed when they are portrayed as either funny mythical creatures or demonic evil beasts.  I think the closet representation of the Dragons is in Eragon.  They are telepathic only with their rider whom they choose and are simply servant beasts like horses.  I doubt they are truly magical unless you consider their having six limbs as such otherwise they are as ordinary as a dog.

I'd also think that given their massive size, they'd need to be magical to fly (if you are going with the more Western vision of a dragon). I think a lot of the influences depicted in movies come from the game D&D whereas different cultures envision them differently. For example, the Chinese dragon is more like a large lizard with four legs while the European / Greek dragon has the added wings that allows them to fly. D&D uses more of the European version and then added in its own lore to fit in with the entire game-lore.
