I was being 'slangy' and jumbled but, in Deutsch and I knew that as soon as I posted it, you'd pop in.  Howdy, "alaric99x".  Do you happen to recall that Kennedy stood there in Berlin and told the crowd that he was either a pastry or, a donut?  Fun stuff, nein?

Well, it would be "deutsch" in that language, they don't capitalize nationalities.  What Kennedy said was perfectly correct, "Ich bin ein berliner."  I was also "ein berliner," having been stationed in that city for 2 years with the US Army and then going on to living there as a civilian for another 3 years, it would be hard to tell you how happy I was when the wall finally came down.

Kennedy didn't make any kind of mistake with the German language, his translators gave him the correct words to say.  It's simply that meanwhile the term "berliner" also means jelly filled doughnut, but Kennedy didn't know about the doughnut and was only saying that he was also a citizen of Berlin, a sentiment the citizens of Berlin, under the threat of Soviet occupation at that time, found to be very encouraging at that time in history.

I've spent more than 5 years of my life in Berlin, I love that city and would be happy to spend the rest of my life there.

There is a great new Netflix original series on now called "Lillihammer".  It is about a mafia boss who relocates to Lillihammer in Norway, under the witness protection program.  It was so good I watched all 9 episodes in one day.
