As long as being overweight doesn't effect your health or blood pressure, who cares. Some people are naturally big, some are naturally small. As for me, being overweight effects my health, so I eat right and exercise, and I stay active. Those three things work for me.

I think being over weight has to do with your body chemistry, but to feel good you need to do a lot of exercises, eat healthy food. Cut down on
fast food, and when you go out to restaurants eat low carb food.  Eat a lot of fruit and yogurt.  I think Weight Watcher is the best program around. You
can still eat your favorite food but it goes on a point system.

I also think eating organic food is better because you don't have chemicals like processed food.

I don't think that overweight people need to feel bad about themselves. In my own experience w/ being overweight, most of my "blues" come from lack of exercise and sunshine. I like to exercise once I get started, but getting started w/ a routine is the big battle. I'm totally a wimp when it comes to 90 degrees and above or 30 degrees and below. I'm totally content not going outside and enjoying the sun when it's out in those temperatures. I also don't like the wind. So, if I were to just get over my dislike and go outside in those temps while the sun is up and walk around, I'd probably be happier and have a better self image.

I am heavier than I should be but not considered overweight.  I am short ... 4' 11"  so every inch shows.  I try to stay as light as possible because it is easier on my knees and back and I try to stay as fit as possible because I want to look my best but it is a STRUGGLE.  I have been as much as 25 pounds overweight ... but now I need to loose around 10 pounds.  It makes you feel better, gives you mor energy and sure makes your clothes fit better.  I have many friends that really struggle with obesity and it is so hard for them to loose anything.  It shouldn't make you feel bad about yourself if you are overweight.... it should just make you want to be healthier and live longer.  A lot of times it takes medical help.  Weight watchers has been a great program and helped many of my friends.  I am currently trying to follow weight watchers but it is very hard because I am hardly ever where i can actually eat a meal.  My parents are both sick and elderly and I am running between hospital, hospice, their home.... trying to to the chores at both homes.... I just grab whatever and it is showing  :'(  I am trying my best to get back on the plan.

My best friend is overweight.  He would be considered obese.  He does not have any interest in healthy eating.  I am concerned about his health.

Self-image is derived from many factors, including weight.  Most Americans weigh more than the ideal BMI.  The problem lies in consistently eating too much of the wrong foods and not exercising.  People who serve their kids junk food and sweets all the time run the risk of having kids who will continue to eat that way in later years.

I agree with sigmapi1501, isn't it a contradiction of eating well, exercise vs. overweight.  I you eat well, work out, and take care of yourself you won't be overweight.  I think of it as fitness.  It's a lifestyle choice of how healthy you want to be.  It's not just how you look on the outside, but what extra weight does to your insides.  Try watching the Biggest Loser, it is such an inspiring way to look at fitness!  Good luck

It's actually very possible for people that eat well and remain very active to be considered overweight. There are plenty of athletes that would be considered overweight but probably are in better health and shape than the majority of thin people.

Anyway, you have to be happy with yourself. If you dislike yourself losing weight won't fix it. You'll have the same attitude in a smaller body

I know research shows that society favors attractive people, but i am curious how overweight people perceive themselves. I have been thin and overweight. My weight has bounced around a lot. I think less of myself when I am heavier and lose respect for myself.
[/I too have bounced back and forth with my weight. I do try to keep my self esteem up & try to love myself no matter what size I am. There are times however that I do feel that the weight is out of my control, & I do end up feeling badly about myself. I am presently trying the Atkins Diet to become healthier, & to look my best. I wish you the best of luck with your fight with weight loss.  :thumbsup:quote]

A rushed schedule does make it difficult to avoid quickie 'meals' that aren't as good for you however, you may want to consider a nutrient-filled protein, (or other), meal replacement shake.  Easy to consume on-the-go and not too bad as far as calories go.  When visiting, also consider parking a little farther away than necessary and quick-walking from there, (every little bit helps).
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.
