How to put a toilet in?

We recently put tile in our bathroom with help and we were to put the toilet back in and for some reason, after we flushed, water was coming out under the floor! We watched the youtube and our friends told us how, but we still ended up with a leak!!!! Youtube said put the ring on the floor, our friends said put it on the toilet direct (which is what we did) Any thoughts???

You can try the home depot website.  It shows you installation of toilets.  I can remember putting the ring on the toilet bottom but, I think it depends on the toilet now.

I think our biggest problem was the store suggested we put in some kind of extension ring because of the tile being put down, but someone else said we wouldn't need that and that it would not give a good seal.  We're giving it another go today, without the extension ring....pray all goes well!!!
