December New Feature #5: Earn Points & Save Money
« on: December 13, 2011, 01:37:03 pm »
Hello Members,

I'd like to introduce our newest feature, Points

It works like this:  you can earn points for forum promos, installing the toolbar, and completing points offers.  Different promos and offers have different point values; you get 2 free points for installing the toolbar (everyone who has installed the NEW toolbar so far has been given this bonus).

You can redeem points once you have 25 or 50 points.
25 points gets you $25 in DiningDough (same restaurant selection as Restaurant.com), or
25 points gets you $25 in HotelCash (use for discounts on hotel bookings, powered by Expedia Networks)

50 points gets you $50 in DiningDough, or
50 points gets you $50 in HotelCash (two night minimum stay required)

Of course, using our new points system is completely optional.  But it's there if you want to save money on eating out or staying in hotels.

Points never expire.  All points offers credit instantly.  And, as long as you have at least one APPROVED cashout - redemption is instant.  You just select which reward you want, and as long as you have enough points, your voucher code is displayed on-screen and can be used immediately.  If you don't have an approved cashout, you'll have to wait until you do in order to redeem your points.

Try it out and tell us what you think!

That concludes December New Feature #5.  There's just one more... but you might say we saved the best for last... :)

So is the DiningDough deal basicly like a gift card to a restuarant? like if I get 25 or 50 points, and redeem, all I gotta do is go to a restraunt and pay with that, no strings attached?

And I cant decide if I love or hate your teasing:

Makes me excited to see what it is, but the waiting is killing me hahaha.. I personaly thought new feature #1 was the best because it gave the avaiablity of earning more $ (high paying surveys) with feature #2 (new toolbar) just behind it (5 cents a day is good but getting $1-$3 on surveys is just more instantly gratifying  ;D)

At any rate, thanks for all the new upgrades to an already awsome pay site!

You're more than welcome.  To answer your question, DiningDough works like this:
- You enter your voucher PIN code on the DiningDough website
- You select the restaurant where you want to use it
- You print a voucher that you take to the restaurant
Each restaurant has different rules, but in general, you can use $25 DiningDough to get $25 off a check of $50 or more, or use $50 DiningDough to get $50 off a check of $100 or more.  The idea is that you can go to a nicer restaurant and order anything off the menu and still get an affordable dinner.  Just don't try to use the voucher PIN code inside the restaurant, because they'll look at you like you're crazy!

As for the HotelCash, to redeem it you visit www.redeemhotelcash.com and choose your booking.  This website has the SAME prices & selection as EXPEDIA does.  Your $25 or $50 HotelCash is deducted from the already-low Expedia Networks rate on the hotel of your choice, saving you big money.  The $25 HotelCash can be used on any stay, even just one night; the $50 HotelCash requires a 2-night minimum stay.

SO there are no restuarants in my area that qualify with the restuarants so what do i do
Looks like you're way out in the sticks!  I would suggest you try the HotelCash instead of the DiningDough :)

I just did the point and click and this popped up and I had no idea what was going on.  So I came here to see if was another of the new features and low and behold here it is.  I'm still new to this but I'm loving these additions.  They're great.

This sounds like a promising program. I really like the fact that the points don't expire, because when you get busy with life outside of the internet, time can pass by you real quickly and you (or at least I) would be very upset to find out that half my points are gone. I like to eat out, and I do book hotels when I travel, so I can see this program being of some use to me. Hopefully FC will continue to add new stuff you can spend your points on. I would really like to see items you can actually buy with your points, but I already know that would cost a lot of them. It would be totally worth it though, if you could save up a couple hundred points for an mp3 player, or some songs, etc. More variety, more use. That's always the bottom line.  :cat:

I don't really want to complain, but the points aren't "easy to get" (ie. I do more work as opposed to just collecting them as I do my normal activities like some other PTC) and prizes aren't *that* good to really justify the work. Can we get some new redeemable items like gift cards to Best Buy or Amazon or something?

Instead of 25 points = $25, it may only equal $10 Best Buy or something like that but at least the redeemable items would be worth pursuing.

The other option is to make it so the points are easier to get. I'd try the food coupon code or the hotel if I got the points much easier, like for every $1 you earn in offers you get 1 point, but I'm not going to do multiple non-paying points offers if the best I can do is use some third party site to get a deal on something.

Can we make some changes to this system early in its release?
