It's a promotion which Kohler runs on occasion.  He'll set up a dedicated thread for the promo and set a pre-determined number of posts for the thread to hit (say 2000).  The rules are usually that each post made has to at least consist of two or three complete sentences, and you can't copy/paste stuff.  There are cash prizes given out for making certain posts.  For example, the person who makes post 100 may get $1.00, post 150 may get $0.25, post 1000 may get $5.00, etc.  Depending on how many people are playing, the promo usually lasts a couple hours before the last post is reached.

Kohler makes the announcement on when he is doing it way in advance of it actually happening.  That then allows people to try and work it into their schedule if they really want to play.

I haven't gotten to participate yet either.  I had to go to church the last time they had one.  I hope it isn't on church night the next time they decide to do a postmania.
