Laptops that shut off
« on: October 10, 2011, 04:26:31 pm »
I have a Toshiba laptop. For a couple of weeks, it was shutting off by itself while I was doing things. I thought it was overheating. I got some compressed air and cleaned it out. It doesn't get so hot any more. Today, while the computer was still cool, it still shut off. Any ideas?

I'm not exactly sure what the problem might be. But it sounds like it might have some thermal regulation problem. So you might look into that. Good luck!

Check the "sleep" option on it. It could be set to automatically turn off by itself (some do have this option). You might find it under "settings". Does it shut off after a certain amount of time, or is it random?  If nothing else, take it back and get a new one or get it fixed if it's still under warranty. Does Toshiba have a help desk number you can call? I have a Mac and they are always there to help 24/7.

I don't have a personal, laptop but we got one for my sister in the nursing home and it has been a real learning experience......

Hers kept shutting off after some dreaded 'inactivity'...well...that's what it said....

we somehow found a place where she could put in a time-frame for how long she could not be 'active' before it shut off....

...who knew?
I always wanted to be someone....
I should have been more specific...
