Yes, we are to prosper in this world and live life more abundantly because of Him. However, can we handle it though.....that's the question. If riches will take us from God, then it's better not to be rich. What would it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul. Many people in the Bible were rich (Abraham, Solomon, Joseph, etc.), and their material blessings came from God.
Prosperity is not just financial, but health, family, love, etc. A man may be poor in this worlds goods, but very rich in his life with many heavenly blessings. Even peace of heart and soul is something no money can buy. Remember the Bible says the "love" of money is the root of all evil. Not money, but the "love" of money. I know people who make quite a bit of money, and have become secure in their wealth, and not God. If we seek God first and want His Will with all our heart, all other things will be added unto us. Sometimes having what we need with no worries is great gain and contentment. Many a rich person is not happy nor content.
It's not wrong to have riches, but if it makes our trust any less in our Lord, or makes us dependent on those riches instead of God, then it's better not to have them. There have been times in my life that I needed a financial blessing and God sent it. That's not trust in my abundance of wealth, but in knowing that HE is my provider and the true riches are in knowing Him and His Word. Also, people need to realize that wealth is to also help those less fortunate. The Bible says: The poor we have with us always. The only redeeming quality that money has......is to further the Kingdom of God (saving of souls), and/or to help someone less fortunate than ourselves/mankind.
Not bragging, but I live very well with everything I could need or want. My income isn't a lot, but my standard of living is much higher than anyone with my income could imagine. That is the blessings of God. God has prospered my life over many years living for him with prosperity, health, physical, mental, and emotional blessings the world cannot give.
