Left/Right? Conservative/Republican? Try to be civil
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:31:01 pm »
I debate on this board a lot. Its an election year, so a lot of topics revolve around politics lately.
I would like to know where the people I debate with are coming from.

Id like this thread to be where we state what we are for/against without a lot of back and forth, but we'll see.

I am for:
SOCIALLY: Women's right to choose, same sex marriage equally, different gun laws for urban areas than rural, homesexuals able to serve open in the military

FISCAL: I am for closing tax loopholes, tax breaks for companies that manufacture in the USA, I don't think we should be allowed to borrow from social security

I am pretty liberal, but not completely for obamacare

I pretty much agree with all you have stated so far. So we are kind of in the  middle (where I think most people are).  Not real extreme on anything, wait the gay stances will probably get us in trouble. LOL

I am for:
Costitutional freedom as guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, particularly the Second Amendment.
Strict limits to the federal government, as stated in the Constitution.
Stopping "entitlements", how can anyone be "entitled" to someone else's property?
Bringing back manufacturing to the US, by tariffs for foreign products and tax breaks for American businesses.
Closing the borders to illegals, and deporting most of the ones who are here already. We need the jobs for all the Americans who will no longer get handouts.
Against:
Abortion, gay "marriage," gun control, Obamacare

Pretty conservative on most issues. I support the Constitution, the death penalty, legitimate and legal gun ownership, the tea party. I am against unbridled giveaway programs, illegal aliens, politically correct verbiage, gun control (defined as that only criminals will have guns),  "spreading the wealth"..also known as Obamas plan to make the US a socialist country  Obamacare, and Obama himself. I would like to see a more balanced tax system, (i.e. everyone pay their fair share based on what they earn.... but I don't support one that equates the wealthy supporting the deadbeats)

Quick question.... For those that support smaller government and want them out of your wallet and bedroom, how can you support them making laws forbidding things like a women's right to choose, or same sex marriage?

This is a good topic to grab a lot of attention with!  I am surprised that "Abrupt" hasn't jumped on here yet! LOL I am for anything that doesn't interfere with a person's wellbeing and life. Constitutional freedom is something that we haven't seen in the last two terms...we have actually seen more infringement on our civil rights as well.  Although I am not into it I believe that people should have their choice in partners and a woman should be allowed to choose to do what she wants with her body and it's contents.  I don't, however, believe that third term abortions should be allowed. Six months is enough time to make a decision and a baby is fully formed in the third trimester.

sigmapi1501~I agree pretty much w/what you're for.I do think that the obamacare should b revised.Right now though I'm turnin toward Obama4 reelection, out of the slim pickins,he's the best choice compared2 the other candidates runnin 4the presidency. The 3republicans runnin remind me of the 3stooges...Larry,moe, & curly....LOL!I think that most people against obama have short memories &refuse 2give him credit when credit is due.1example is that the auto facilities r rising up again.Like he promised it would.Or a short time ago, obama threaten 2keep the republicans &dems from goin home 4the holidays until they agreed on votin 4the tax cuts deal.Of course the republicans caved in the very last minute. Not b/c they care about us but bcause the people would blame them4 makin our taxes go up 20%!Most people against obama also r not patient, they're like babies, wahhha I want it now! They don't understand even the best plans laid out can face road blocks. Most of those road blocks were the republicans stoppin anything &everything that the president wanted2 give us.Even the the tea party people who voted 4the republicans r admitting that they r not followin through what they promised.I'm independent,& don't care whether you're repub or dem, i'll vote 4the 1 who shows action &not words.Right now obama is the showin action &results. Even some repulicans r 4obama,1 business man a rep.told the press,he's rep.but he's 4obama b/c he came through4 him w/his promises. He's also disgusted at the antics that his republican party is making a complete fool of them selves. They can't even remember what they were for 4 yrs ago,& today say the opposite thing.Who want's a flip flop president;can't even remember his choices made in the past!ACTION NOT WORDS!!!!!

On most policies I can best sum up my stance with one word FREEDOM.  Perhaps I am more libertarian than conservative.

*** I edited out portions of this so as to adhere more to the "be civil" request.  I reread what I had posted and found what I had before didn't quite qualify and out of respect for the request I am removing it ***

@tantrica44 I tried to read what you posted but I could not manage to get through it and I believe most readers will likely also abandon reading of it.  You could have made some very good points in there but most will never know if you do not take the simple time to post legibly.  I am not saying this to be critical either I am saying this in respect of your voice.

There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.
