knowing your family members
« on: July 10, 2011, 05:12:49 am »
My older brother and his wife have been married for four years now and we were sitting at a resturant when my sister-in-law mentions that she loves cheesecake.  My brother immedately responds, 'I didn't know that.' I went and said, 'you've been married for four years and you didn't know?'  At the time I thought that was totally strange but now I look at all the family and think, 'yea, that makes sense.'  It why after all these years I still make a christmas list because no one seems to know what to get me.  I mean I just buried my grandmother and her own daughter (my mother) didn't even know that grandma always slept with a roseary under the right side of her pillow--and she's been doing that for years.  I want to say it's just weird that you can live with a person for all your life and still not know them but for me it is weird.  I guess that's why it's always me that pics the gifts out for everyone else.

I think there are always things about a person that you don't know, I have been married to my husband for over 36 years now and he still surprises me at times.  But, I think that is what makes people interesting, there is always something new to learn about them.

I used to think it odd, but my husband and I have been together for around 20 yrs and he still doesn't have a clue about me.  I am suprised that he remembers my b-day but that is just about the only thing he knows, the rest is just a lucky guess.   :D

I don't think it's unusual to still learn things about your best friend/husband...after all, you probably weren't there for a few decades of their life or more; therefore, there's many, many details there that don't immediately come to the surface.

That is a good analysis and it makes one wonder if we do not know each others tastes then
do we really know their personality..?  Good post !

I don't think it's possible to know everything about even the closest people in our lives.  I know there are things about me that I will never share with anyone not even my mother.  As much as we think we know someone we will never know everything.
