When you nag constantly at someone eventually they start to tune you out and don't listen.  You need to find a different way to get their attention.

As a child of a mom who often nags me (though she prefers it not to be called that lol) I would say, try to give your kid/kids a little room to make their own mistakes. Unless it's something dangerous or important you're trying to get through to them about. Though I understand that my mom's nagging comes from a good place a lot of the time it just makes me frustrated and half of the time I was planning to do what she nagged me to do before she even nagged me about it. It's not fun to feel like you're being babied (as I'm sure it's not fun to feel like a nag on your end  ;)).

Just know when to pick your battles. If the kid/kids' room is a mess and they couldn't care less about cleaning it, fine. let it get dirty, hopefully they'll get tired of living in their filth and do something about it. If it's something of real importance, then just make it a point to bring it up to them once or twice maybe. Just so they know you're concerned, but don't try to force the issue, it could do more harm than good.

Good luck.

:dontknow: kids will always be kids, just love them until they grow out of it and then they will understand.

I'm 18 and I've come to realize that my mom does it because she loves me, but then again it's taken me this long to realize so I guess it might just take some time.

I dont think that kids will understand. Until they have their own families. You can do everthing right and do it with love. Sometimes that is interpret to them as nagging but its just concern and love.

I have caught myself nagging my son. I try to find a different way to communicate with him, instead of nagging him. If I nag him, the result is the same. Nothing gets done. I try to remember how I felt when I was nagged by my mom. I hated it. I promised myself that I wouldn't do it to my kid.

They are listening- at least a little- but they may not realize it until they are adults-

You don't have to nag to show that you care or to show your love.

All very good comments.  Nagging doesn't work, so I am not sure why I still do it.  Then I see how  my mom still nags me after all these years and I realize that I probably never learned any other way.  I am working on it, but it really is hard not to nag when you ask a child to do something and they just ignore you.
