Garage Sales ... old magazines
« on: June 03, 2011, 04:06:17 pm »
we are getting ready to move (yuck!) ... need to clean out stuff.  I have a bunch of old magazines, like marieclare, arch digest, cooking lite etc.  should i put these in garage sale? like for a .05 ea?  i once knew a girl who did beautiful art using pix from magazines.  do you think magazines would be a seller?

Hey, whaddya have to lose?  One man's garbage is another man's gold.  Maybe someone will find magazines they'll enjoy reading.  Besides, if they don't sell, you can always just give them away... Good luck with your sale...

I when I have yard sales I have a freebie box.  I put in odds and ends that aren't worth much that no one would buy or pay too much money for and give them away free with a purchase or just have the box out with free on it even if they don't buy anything.  You can try that.  If you are near a school or know any teachers you can give it to them and they could use them for lessons or art class.

You never know what other people will think
is worth buying.

I hate throwing out magazines too...

You might start your sale with a price on them,
then switch to the FREE box if no one is buying.

I love old magazines and I buy them at yard sales. 5 cents is a good price. Good Luck. :)

I think 5 cents is a decent price. Who knows you might have someone that collects that magazine for whatever reason and needs those issues to complete the collection. You have nothing to lose, I say go for it. Worst thing that could happen is they don't sell.

I try to sell magazines at yard sales once in a while. You really need someone who is looking to complete a set or something. One thing I do have to say is that they are heavy to lug around. You may want to look at putting them on EBAY.

thanks for allllll  the great words!  we have TONS of magazine ... i wrapped a bunch up for the recycling truck to pick up on trash day a few months ago, but felt that something was just off about throwing them away like that.  was good they were recycled, but still ... wanted them to get USED ....

was goood idea about giving them to a teacher. my aunt has a teacher friend, BUT she's the one who keeps bring MORE magazine to our part of the world! chuckle ....

thanks again!!!!

I think they would sell.  I have seen people do it for more than that.  I think I would only pay a nickle, but that's me.

If it was a magazine I liked, then .05 is a good price. I pay .25 at the library for back dated magazines. I love to buy National Geographic, Time, and some Reader's Digest's that I haven't read. News type magazines are great things to pick up at garage sales if they have a world changing event reported in them. People who kept all their old LIFE magazines are now selling some of them for some big bucks. Especially the ones having to do with the beginning of the space program at NASA, or the first moon landing. Some magazines become collectors items.

i've actually bought a "lot" of magazines
on ebay in the past. there was an entire year's
subscription for $4.

i've always bought martha stewart/opera
magazines at goodwill for 50 cents each and
was thrilled with that price.
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

You have nothing to lose if you put them up at your garage sale.  If they don't sell, you could give them away, donate to GoodWill, give them away on freecycle, etc.

Might as well try it.  People may jump on them, they may not, but you'll never know if you don't give it a shot.
