An Emergency Disaster Kit should include:

A First Aid kit

A flashlight w/batteries

Manual can opener & utensils

Ready to eat canned foods

Candles w/matches

Bottled water

Blankets

Waterproof box with important family documents

Radio w/batteries

Toiletries

PLEASE do this if you have not already. According to Accuweather, the number of tornadoes this year has passed 2008's record.

Nope, I have never made a disaster kit. We are not in an area where we get tornados, although we get a lot of freezing cold weather and snow. Not a bad idea to have one.

I have a Disaster Kit. Ever since we had a catastrophic ice storm 2 years ago I've kept one. We went 2 weeks in the middle of winter with no power, water, phone . It took the National Guard a week to get to us because of the trees and power lines that were down. People were melting snow for water. It was awful.

We get a lot of tornado warnings but have been really lucky not to get hit. During the outbreak this week we had 9 tornado warnings for my county in 5 days.

After seeing what has happened in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee, everyone should be prepared.

We don't have one but should.  I think I find it interesting that people plan and prepare AFTER an event takes place.  Maybe prep before could pay off before the next BIG ONE HAPPENS.
