Cats can become "ferrel" (spelled wrong) real fast, ie....wild.  Even your normal house cat can become this way if they are left outside too long and forgotten.  The younger they are, the more the danger of ending up this way.  They can get mixed up with wild cats, and become wild themselves.  Once this happens, you can't get close to them.  They will eat what you leave out, but very seldom will you tame them to be a pet.  It's been done, but it's rare.

A cat will actually leave a place it doesn't like, and become wild also.  Preferring the wild life over domestication.

Depends on how you approach the situation. I have been able to tame several of the wild ones myself. Sometimes it is just setting food out for them and then backing away to a comfortable spot where the cat will come and feed. Every few days moving a bit closer to the food. Eventually they get use to you presence. Having a small blanket out with your smell on it helps them to associate the food to you. The last one we got one of the cat toys that was a stick with string and a toy on the end of it and moved it around on ground while cat was eating. Only took 2 weeks to get him to come to us. He even became a house cat who liked going outside to use the bathroom lol.

i talked to the landlord of the house and he didnt understand why i was feeding it. i said well, i dont want to see it die. he said it wont die coz it will find it's own food. he said its got chipmunks etc to hunt. he said he's not a cat person and wants me to take it or get rid of it some how. he told me he doesnt want it on his property and so i started leaving food out for it on my parents side of the street. i would come when called. meow at me and want lots of attention. i didnt have alot of time to actually spend time with the cat coz i had a job to do but i would come outside when i can and give it food and attention. so, it began getting colder outside and i became worried, even though the cat had gained some weight..i knew it didnt have enough weight to withstand the cold all winter without shelter. it would hide underrneathe my parents front stairs and stay there until i called it out for dinner. other times it would do it's own thing. it knows what cars are and it runs from them. it's a very loving cat and it's just scared.

on thursday i had called a lady about the cat. i got the number from my mom's daycare parents which had gotten a kitten from them recently for their daughters b-day. i called her and we all thought she took in cats and find homes for them as a living.. but NO. she made this a special occasion because the cat was abandoned. i borrowed a cat carrier from my parents neighbor, took the cat out to my neighborhood and the lady came a picked it up and brought back the carrier. she said she would have it at the vet's today to check it out and if it's not fixed then they will fix it and adopt it out. she says its very hard to adopt out adult black cats. i think she's just not looking hard enough for homes. ne ways, as far as i know the kitty is safe now and is inside where it is warm. i will get an update for u all tomorrow. i want to see what happened at the vet and what gender it actually is. my mom thinks its a boy..but we will see. she also got to pet it a few times too. and it's not afraid of kids.

I dont know what I would do.
Its just sick, I love both my dogs, and feel guilty when nobodys home for more than like 9 hours, I cant imagine why you would leave one behind. Like find it a home, give it to a friend, but dont just leave it like its a couch. :angry7:

I used to take care of two strays in a parking lot when I was younger. My parents refused to let me take them home. One of my friends decided to take one of them home and her cat and dog chased it away and we never saw it again.

I'm glad your cat story has a good ending, people drop cats in the country all the time and their is no way we can take care of them.  What that do not realize is that wild animals and cars get most of them.

I don't know if you have seen the movie Bolt, but this reminds me of the part when Mittens (I think that was her name) was talking about how her owners left her behind making her wonder what she did wrong and why they didn't want her any more.  I'm really sensative so even though I'm 20 I cried haha.  If you care that much, which I would too, I would take a couple of pictures, pick the best one, and post it whereever you can in your town FREE CAT OR KITTEN. and post it on your facebook or myspace if you have one and post it on Craig's list.  Don't give up, you will find an owner.

id call animal control to see if they could get the kitty. poor guy. when we were forced to move i wasnt able to catch my cat because my neighbor had been bringing him inside.  and we had to be out by a certain time one a certain day. so i never got to get him, but i know she's taking care of him.

ok, so the lady who took him said that she normally takes donations to take care of the kitties she has(or says she has) i'm wondering if she really has any left because i called her after my cat had been put to sleep ..wondering if she wanted the rest of the cat food for a donation and she didnt give me a straight answer. all she said was give the litter box to ur brother or keep it coz u might want another kitty later. so, i called her again asking her is i could bring over the food she gave me so many excuses why i couldnt come over and drop it off. makes me think she doesnt have him ne more. and if she does, why wont she take the food. i feel like taking him back from her and taking care of him myself now.. i dont know for sure if she still has him but she says she's keeping him. i wanted to see him but she wouldnt let me do that either.
